Will newegg accept international credit cards?
Alex

I think they accept Int'l CC as long as the shipping address is in the States.
-
thats too bad... :S

If you're outside of the states and still believe newegg offers parts considerably cheaper than your local prices, consider freight forwarding services. They provide you basically with a US based address to have your online orders shipped to (usually a PO Box), and they in turn ship to you overseas (plus varying amounts in comission based on volume, value of goods and frequency of using their service, etc). It may still be worth your while.
-
unfortunately i dont think newegg allow intl credit cards, many ppl here in dubai have tried to order and they refuse the orders. in fact newegg are so anal that even one guy who has a US credit card and bank account was refused cuz he was not physically in the US! (he was using a freight forwarding service)
-
It is mentioned clearly in their policy. Reasonable policy against credit card fraud in my opinion.
-
they are jsut being a pain really. -
They say that you must have a credit card issued by a USA bank WITH a USA billing address. You can be on holiday to China. As long as the above conditions apply there is no problem.
-
Nope, this guy has a US bank account with a US billing address for the card as I mentioned but they rejected his order cuz he wasn't IN the US.
Like i said, theyre being a pain for no reason. as long as they have verified the address and it's genuine which they say they do with ALL their visa purchases, then they shouldnt do this, but they do and they did. -
How did they know he was not in the US? If there is somebody to sign for the parcel at delivery there is no problem. If however he wanted the parcel "diverted" to another address then, sorry that;s not going to happen.
-
how did they know? he is not in the US, therefore his IP address wouldnt be a US one
and also he had been using it normally for a while, until they found out he wasnt in the US.
see it's an unofficial company policy, much like my issue with techforless who wont send to a freight forwarding address without you using a wire transfer. they dont say this (at least i havent seen it in their policy and they dont mention it in their listings in amazon marketplace) but when you order and they take the money out initially, once they find out your address is a freight forwarding company, they cancel your order. only way to order is through wire transfer which makes their bargains cost as much as buying new items. the thing is they have google checkout and amazon payments which basically deal with the payments and send the money to techforless. if eventually the money was fraudulent, techforless are saved as the problem will be between me and the third party payment system (google or amazon), but the still insist on a wire transfer. interestingly this is against amazon marketplace rules (to request payment outside amazon's payment system) and I have complained to amazon about them.
you see it's a similar issue of companies making up rules but not bothering to mention them officially. there is no reason for the rule especially when there are contingencies for them, but they still have them.
Ive actually asked newegg if i can use a bank draft drawn on a US bank to pay them since i cant use my NZ visa and they said yes but im weary of wasting money making one only to have it rejected by newegg just like they did with this guy -
-
i cant believe that... way to extreme.. anyone else had this problem?
Alex -
Um so you dont think they log IP address from ppl who make orders? especially the ones they actually will process? I think they are required to so they can ensure proper protection against fraud. many online payment systems will log th IP address, it isnt unusual.
avillabon, i doubt anyone else is gonna give you any insight into this as most ppl here are from the US so they dont have these problems, in any case you cant use newegg anyways. -
yeah i know.... i went ahead and transfered funds from the non-us CC to the US one.. so its ok...

I'm ordering at Newegg from my work that is in Mexico, and I didn't have any problem, the only one were TigerDirect, but they give me an e-mail address to send them a small note after buying using my work IP (Mexico), to avoid any one abusing my credit card ( US based, and USA billing address )and protecting me. So they (newegg) are not checking IPs...
-
i thought so...
Alex -
how does it protect against fraud?
well if your IP address is not in the US, they at least know that if in the event of a fraudulent order, they can track where the order originated from.
Im not saying everyone will encounter this, but that it had happened and most likely they discriminated due to the country of origin. Never thought of that part eh -
Well they have proven you wrong as you can see.
It seems that you don't understand that the best protection against fraud is shipping only to the billing address and that is what these companies do. -
that doesnt mean his billing address wasnt the shipping address dude, i never mentioned that it wasnt!
also newegg do say they can ship to someone else i think as long as you add this which clearly he was since he had used newegg for a while before that
so my point still stands with regards to region and IP checking as probably being the reason they turned his order down after so many successful ones
it doesnt take much to record it -
My friend who lives in the USA and is spending his holidays in the UK has just made an order without any problems. What more do you need to understand that there is no IP checking? -
Um let's see
i said it might be region specific, my friend is in Dubai, very far from the US and certainly not as credible as the other two options with potential fraud issues.
whenever you make an online payment using a payment system, they log your IP, so how hard could it be for newegg to do the same? -
Well if you think of Mexico as a credible country....hey, what the hell, then almost all countries in the world are credible, he he... (sorry Mexico...)
-
hehe
I agree -
hmmm ok let's try and make it clear for you all
firstly newegg could have known/realized the address was a freight-forwarding address (dont ask how, techforless knows this too), so with this they know the guy is not in the US
a person showing multiple credible purchases to a residential address may not be seen as suspicious if he orders something in mexico once, but many times it might
dubai is quite a distance away from mexico and the US, even further than the UK if you didnt know that, obviously newegg got suspicious of something so if you find it hard to believe, then perhaps you have a better idea of what happened -
Are you saying now that they calculate the distance from USA using the IP?
Get serious.
Have you heard of a programm named Tor?
If not I undrestand why you don't understand why newegg does not bother with your IP address. -
But recently, they don't accept credit cards that DO NOT have a US Billing Address - Or so is the official line from their reps when I had issues attempting to make a purchase.
- Jordan -
well i did suggest you explain why they dont accept orders from him anymore and why he can still use it everywhere else like on amazon or apple or whatever.
clearly someone at newegg is screwing around or they really did think an order originating from dubai for delivery in the US from a US visa card was suspicious
and yes what of tor? sure someone could access newegg through a proxy or something but a proxy originating from dubai lol yeah with the slow net we have here.
whatever you think, this is what he told me so Im just saying what I have been informed. arguing with me over soemthing we both dont have first hand experience with is quite dumb -
As long as they have to ship to the same billing and residential address in USA they do not have any problem wherever you order from (Mexico, UK, South Africa).
-
heh you know techforless did bother if the address is a freight-forwarding company
but u kinda did answer your own self, you mentioned residential address, i was talking about an address for a freight-forwarding company. so maybe that's why they rejected it even though they had shipped there several times before -
-
I never said the address was residential......
and since he is in dubai he needs to use a freight forwarding company to get his stuff -
Then you should now better that a freight forwarding company does not count as a residential address and does not have the same billing address.
So I think you agree that you can order from whichever part of the world as long as you use your same billing and shipping USA address. NewEgg is doing the right thing to protect its customers. -
you can set your billing address to that address and he did cuz that's how he got his previous stuff
but when they found out he was not physically in the US (he didnt tell me they found out about the address being a freight-forwarding one so I dont know), they told him he cant order stuff from them anymore.
Whether you can or cant is unclear as this is the experience my friend had. And newegg did tell him that he had to be in the US to order, but that could be their customer service not understanding that he was using a US address and it was a freight-forwarding address.
He probably could try and order again and who knows it could work but after many successful orders from them, this is what they told him. Now you tell me how they found out he wasnt in the US when he has a US account with a US billing address. -
Can you tell me which bank allows you to change your billing address to a freight-forwarding one?
-
IF you use that address to send all your mail maybe
and it could be a secondary address
read newegg's instructions, they say they will ship to an address that is in your credit card details, it can be a secondary address. apparently in the US it is allowed cuz many sites say you can do it. -
I'm going to school in the Dominican Republic and made an order w/ a us cc to be sent to my home address in the us, and the order was cancelled, due to the fact that it was made from the Dominican Republic, they confirmed when i contacted about the cancelled order that they do IP checking, and that was the reason my order was cancelled.

LOL @ Newegg.
