I have a hard time believing that the nvs320m outperforms his bigger brother, the QuadroFX 1600m, which is sold for about 700~800 $ more, in the 8710w . My guess is that they benchmarked a Quadro FX1600m.

If not, perhaps the benchmark for the 8710w was done on a higher resolution?

    Don't believe then...

The FX 1600M will blow out of the water the NVS 320M in workstation apllications/benchmarks since that's what this cards is designed for. That's due to the hardware OpengGL accelerated features, memory management optimizations and optimized drivers.

No, perhaps the FX 1600M was tested with the OpenGL drivers, which usually reduce its gaming/3DMark performance.

Otherwise, both will have similar performance in games since they both are the 8700M GT assuming they are clocked similarly and appropriate drivers are used.

And, thanks for that thread kworld, that's good news.

apparently the nvs 320m and the fx1600m is both based on the 8700gt card but the latter has an opengl driver just like the difference between the nx9420 with nvs 510m and the nw9440 with fx1500

Wish they'd do something quasi-useful and review the 8510p instead :p

edit: Although they do say in the review they don't like the screen much. Just as Greg mentioned in the 8510w review...Damn :(

Thats pretty good, and the 8700GT is a beast. I still think the 8510p is a better deal. Its lighter, smaller, better default screen, more ram and faster HD (7200 vs 5400RPM) Also is you O/C the 8600GT, you can probally get close to 4K in 06 which is fantastic for a 15.4 inch notebook that is just a bit over 1.1inches thick.

Hey guys, is there any DEFINITIVE information about the 320M being a 8700M-GT in disguise? I have an opportunity to grab one, but I'd like to know before I choose.
