    Hi all,

My first post here. For some time I've been having a problem with my HP Presario 2000 it just turns off randomly. I had to wait for some time and remove the battery, putting it back again seemed to solve the problem - temporally. Do you have any idea what is it? It doesn't look to me as overheating, nor as a memory or hardware issue. I suspect it might be a battery, or the adaptor which may produce some short-circuit. I also tried to run it without battery but it doesn't switch on either. I suppose battery is necessary anyway, don't you think? Really apreciate your help/suggestions.

    Thanks
    kuba

You should be able to run the NB without the Battery connected, and with just the AC adapater plugged in. In most cases it is recommended that if you are giong to be using a NB in one place with the AC adapter that you can remove the battery.

What you should try is the next time it does shut down on is to remove the battery and ac adapater and hold the power button down for approx 15 seconds then plug the battery and ac adapter back in and try to power the NB back on.

How do yyou know it's not overheating? It may be overheating without you actually feeling the heat through the plastic. Cleaning your vent can't hurt anyway.

From what you describe it does sound like a heat issue since you have to wait awhile before you are able to power the NB back on. What I would do is Download a program that monitors NB temps and record what temps your get before you get a shutdown.

    Thanks for suggestions,
Holding power button for 15 sec didn't help. Looks like it is done for good. A couple of times the notebook turn off just after start, that's why I don't suspect overheating. I can see that for now the most reasonable solution would be to test it with another adaptor.

Turning off just after starting up can also be a sign of overheating. I had faced the exact same problem as you. You have to know that when the OS selection screen is being displayed and when Windows is booting up, the processor usage is 100% almost throughout. This can cause sudden heating up.

If the notebook just starts for a fraction of a second and the quick touch buttons just blink rapidly, that is also a sign of overheating.

My battery had stopped charging too. They replaced the motherboard to fix this problem. But it truly went away only after they replaced the heat sink and thermal paste.

are you sure they plug the cpu fan in? How long does take before crash?

Check vents as other fourm post say or maybe they did,nt put heatsink back on right if not too much work maybe grab service manual off the hp site and check location fan see how much work it be to acess to clean it might just be matter remove acess cover to get to cpu fan

when you turn laptop on does fan start up then stop ?

you shound be able see spin most likely thougth bottom laptop or vent

the vent cound be pluged like this

http://couponmeister.com/blog/cleanLaptop.jpg I see it alot we use vacum the blow or compressed area to clean the vents but if bad pluged some time easy to pull heatsink out and pick the dirty out of them

when they removed you heatsink did they remove old thermal pasted and clean cpu before apply new all did they tight down all screen on heatsink most of them have 4 screw that tighten down to apply force to the cpu to make contacted

I think I'm having same problem with you last time. My another laptop Compaq Presario V5232TU was claimed warranty 3 times within 2 years(extended warranty). I heard from the company, they have paid around RM400+ (US$100 ~ US$150 something) to fix this turns off suddenly problem. But I don't know what hardware is HP service center replace for it.
