When did they start adding numpads to 15 inch and larger notebooks from Hp?

They make the regular keyboard off center, the touchpad off center and in some cases the arrows keys get all messed up into half keys like on the dv6t

Is it something everyone wants on their notebook or something?
    I know I don't.

Also, the chicklet keyboards kind of suck...

I guess it's the new "thing". But many PC manufacturers are doing it. The "island-style" board is here to stay. I have mostly noticed it on the higher-end laptops/notebooks. My opinion is that it became popular due to the 15"-16" form factor being the popular choice for portability/productivity. There are still some HP models, such as the g6 series, that still use the traditional laptop keyboard, however.

I agree with you for the most part. I really did not care for the look at first, but the more I played around with it, the more I became used to it. Try it - you might surprise yourself.

Actually if you do other things than just play games... umm, like use an editor, the secondary num (un)lock functions are actually pretty convenient.

I do plenty of other things besides play games. My wife does also. However, the touchpad being off center and the home keys being way off center are rather annoying.

On my desktop which has a numpad I can move the keyboard to compensate.
