    Hi there!
I've been a satisfied user of my HP nw8240 for more than a year until recently the USB port on the left-side of the NTB died.
According to the service manual, this USB port is hard-wired to the mainboard, so if I claim a guarantee repair, they'll have to change the whole mainboard?
If so, is there any chance I could get the nw8440 mainboard (Dual-core & v5200) instead of the nw8240 (Pentium-M & v5000)? I checked the HP market for service parts' prices, the mobo for the nw8440 is around USD 150 cheaper than the one for nw8240.
    Any ideas please?

If it's under warranty, they will try to replace it with the proper nw8240 board. Chances are, they won't have stock (they don't keep inventory of old parts) and may delay your repair, in which case you'll have to escalate the repair case (from my experience with old models). When you do so, you *can* suggest to the engineer to try the new systemboard since parts will be readily available. Since HP is doing the repair, they should know what's best to do, possibly even replacing your entire notebook.
Either way, it's free if it's under warranty, so just get it fixed.

Ok, thank you for the info. Much appreciated...
I hope they will actually replace the mobo with the new one, since DualCore will come in handy with all the CAD I do....
