While I certainly love my nw8440, one thing that annoys me to death is the bluetooth.
First off, while the machine came with a bluetooth module, there were no drivers for it. So I downloaded the drivers from HP so I could use my Microsoft Bluetooth mouse. Most of the time, it works fine.
Then there are the times where it doesn't work. For example, if you recover the machine from standby, the bluetooth is very intermittent for the first few minutes or so, constantly loosing the connection with my mouse. Eventually, bluetooth will be fine again.
Then there is a more serious problem where the bluetooth just stops working. My bluetooth mouse won't respond, but the computer still "thinks" it's connected. When I attempt to reconnect, I get a "Your bluetooth device could not start the search for devices" message. When I attempt to explore My Bluetooth Places and/or browse through the bluetooth settings, my computer crashes.
I can get bluetooth working again by turning the wireless off (the wireless button also toggles the bluetooth) and turning it on again. But is there a way so that I don't have these problems in the first place?
P.S. This is not a Microsoft mouse-specific issue. A classmate with the same laptop had the exact same problems with his Logitech bluetooth mouse.

Try replacing the HP Widdcomm bluetooth drivers with Microsoft's standard ones. I find them more stable.

changing the drivers should help alot. -
So far, it's working great! It's too early to tell, but I noticed that several of the advertised 'features' of my mouse that NEVER worked before suddenly work now! The magnifier now works (the button for it would behave like a 'forward' button), though I don't really like it, so I configured it for 'forward' navigation. Also, when I click down on the wheel, I now get a Windows Vista-esque view of all the programs that are currently running! Very cool!
It's still too early to tell how reliable these new drivers will be, but so far, so good! Thanks guys!
