At times Windows Vista tells me it is safe to remove the broadcom netlink gigabit ethernet adapter, at times it disappears from device manager, and occationally it reappears, and the computer makes the "new device found" sound, most commonly associated with plugging in USB storage devices. This problem seems to be related to power management in some way--the computer doesn't seem to detect the presence of the power cord when the network card is missing. At present this is merely an annoyance, since most of the time it works fine, but I have a feeling this is getting more and more common. Today it seemed to switch off and on in rapid succession, with the screen brightness changing multiple times as a sign of the computer using battery power and the devices attached and device removed sounds playing.

Could this be a driver issue? Windows reports I'm using the newest ones available. Is there something I could test or figure out before I call HP support? The computer is still under warranty.

I'm having the same issue, twice in the last couple of weeks, on XP Home edition. Have you ever managed to find the cause of this? Symptoms are similar; it stops charging, battery runs flat and it won't do anything for a while. Eventually it starts charging again, but what triggers it is a mystery.
