Hello everyone!
I have a problem which I am unable to solve. I have bought my Compaq nx7010 a month ago.
First I have installed SuSe 9.1 pro, but I was unable to reach resolution higher than 1280×800. I have also installed open-source drivers for my radeon mobility but the problem remained. During that time, I came across, in XFree86Log, a confusing information which stated, that my LCD display does not support resolution higher that 1280×800. I was dealing with a problem for a week, and then uninstalled Linux as I thought, that compatibility issues were in question.
As I have installed Windows XP, the problem remained. I was unable to set a higher resolution than 1280×800 though it was clearly stated, as I bought my notebook, that the max. Resolution is 1680×1050. I have downloaded all new drivers from HP site, and upgraded both main bios and video bios, and still have the same problem.
Recently I have tried with OmegaDrive optimized drivers and still the problem remains. If I uncheck Hide modes that this monitor cannot display and then set the resolution to 1680×1050 I do get the image, but I must scroll up and down, the resolution is not scaled or better said, the whole screen is not displayed although Scale image to panel size is checked.
Before this one, I had nx7000 and there were no problem at all, unfortunately, it was stolen.
Does anyone have any resembling problem? Am I missing something? Is it possible, that the notebook was sold to me, with a card, that can display 1680×1050 and a LCD monitor that can only display 1280×800. It seems ridiculous to me. (stated on the invoice: 15,4 TFT LCD WSXGA+, resolution: 1680×1050; ATI MR 9200 64MB)
Does anyone have any suggestions, because I really need my notebook and am not in the mood to wait for it 20 days if I give it to service?
Thank you!!!

Hmmm, that really sounds like they gave you a WXGA instead the UXGA panel. I'd contact HP as it sounds like they simply gave you the wrong part. Also, see if you can connect to an external monitor and try to change resolutions on it.
I've heard that an LCD only looks best at it's native resolution, and any resolution below that looks fuzzy. If your screen looks good and sharp at WXGA resolution, then HP probably just fudged your order. -
That's what I was afraid of. The probably did gave me a wrong part. The current resolution looks great on this LCD and there is no indication, that this resolution is not the native one for current LCD panel. I'll take my commuter back, and call them every day, if it has been fixed yet
and hope that they'll be able to replace it quickly.
Thank you very much!!!
nx7010 res. prob. cannot display over 1280×800 ???
