Good day to all. I have bought a HP Compaq nx7300 with CPU CeleronM. I have changed to the CPU, installing a T5500 CORE2DUO. The boot of the computer it happens alone if not active CPU DUAL CORE from the BIOS. When the boot it happens CPUZ recognizes the CPU like a T5500 but with single active Core. How I can make? The version of the BIOS is 68YGU Ver. F.0A 12/18/2006. The Motherboard is model 30A2 KBC 40.17. TNX

Make sure that you have the latest BIOS for the machine, and then go into them. The HP business models have a flag accessible from within BIOS to activate the second core.

Hello,
I have done exactly the same thing on my nx7300 notebook, except that I upgraded my Celeron M 430 processor to a Core Duo T2400 processor.
Upon the first power on, the computer would seemingly finish the POST, but not boot into the OS. Nothing on screen, and the keyboard doesn't work. The boot order was correct. So I go into the BIOS settings and notice that a new option 'Dual Core CPU Enable/Disable' is available, but it is already enabled. I removed the CMOS battery for several minutes, put it back in and set the BIOS settings again but still the same happened.
At the moment, it will only post if the second core is disabled. HP currently don't have any BIOS updates for the nx7300. The only version available is F.0A which is the current version. I tried reflashing the nx7300 with the same BIOS version but to no avail.
I'm hoping one will be available in the future which might fix this issue. -
Alvin,
For sake of argument, have you tried booting off an OS besides Windows on the HDD? Like a WIndow install CD or a Linux Live CD? A long shot, I know, but HP will sell a nx7300 with a Core Duo, so it ought to support it one way or another. -
Hello,
Yep. Can't even boot into a boot disc. The system becomes unresponsive right after the POST sequence and I have to do a hard power off.
I would expect it to work as well. -
Scary news, as I am planning to replace the CPU in my nx7400.
-
wait.... they will probably release a new bios soon...
also could try to DOWNGRADE to an older bios ... say .... worked for me once... when it would not detect my network card at all... seems it clears some of the problems... do this at your own risk though...

Hello,
HP have released a new BIOS version F.0B on 18th April 2007. But don't get your hopes up.

The enhancement is: Integrates a new version of Intel support code for mobile processors: Intel Core2 Duo Mobile Processor T7000 and T5000 series processors. I downloaded it and upgraded from version F.0A to F.0B.
Unfortunately, my nx7300 with Intel Core Duo T2400 (which I upgraded to) still doesn't boot with 'Dual Core CPU' enabled in the BIOS. -
Does anyone have a spare Core2Duo CPU to lend me? I wanna try it before I buy one
Ok, seriously, did anyone try and contact HP about the problem? -
Here is a possible solution from a guy called Jeremy Ronsen from HP support forums:

Hello,
Unfortunately, it doesn't work because the system fails to boot into any medium, whether it be a boot disc or hard drive OS. So even on a clean system with a formatted hard drive, you can't boot into an OS installation disc or live linux CD with dual core CPU enabled in the BIOS.
I'm currently in the process of obtaining support from HP about this issue. It is likely to be a lengthy process. I will report any significant progress. -
Keep us posted Alvin.C

Bump!
Keeping the thread alive! -
I purchased a Celeron M based NX7300 with the 945ML chipset. I installed the core duo 1.83Ghz T2350 (engineering sample) and was able to successfully get *both* cores operating
. There are versions of NX7300 that come with the 940ML chipset (optimized for celerons) which do NOT support dual cores.
