nx8220's CPU temp concern

I'm using nx8220 with 1.73Ghz cpu, 512 ddr2 and 80GB 5400rpm harddrive. I noticed that my cpu temp is a little higher than that indicated in Venombite's review. Using Everest home edition, With AC power, the temperature of my cpu is around 49-52 degrees most of the time without gaming, just basic web browsing and playing music with itunes. If i use it on my lap without my leg blocking the fan part underneath, the temp of cpu drops around 47degrees. The motherboard and harddrive temp is around 40-45degrees most of the time.

Most of the time i use my laptop on a carpet and the room temperature is around 20 degrees (Melbourne). Is this normal for nx8220?

 

That doesn't sound abnormal...are you concerned that it's too hot?

What is your power management settings currently set to? If you have set it to Always On, that would explain it. This forces your CPU to run at max speed all the time. Mine was set to Notebook/Laptop. Also, playing music will also put a bit more strain on your notebook because the CPU must decode/decompress the audio.

I also noticed that you were running Everest Home Edition. I checked it out and it's a diagnostics program. Could this be running things in the background other then temp monitoring? My system was a clean OS load with nothing except the OS and just the necessary drivers for the unit to operate correctly.

The temp I had on my review was 45C and you're is 49-52C, but then drops to 47C if you don't cover the cooling vents on the underside. Well, this should be expected if you block the cooling vents on the underside. This is one of the complaints I had about the unit. The fan exhaust vent on the underside is right where your lap would be located, effectively blocking the vent.

What happens if you run the system on your desk, does it run cooler? 47C is not too far from my 45C, so you should be within norms as Brian mentioned. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. Just make sure you don't block the vents and you should be fine.

Thank you Brian and venombite. I noticed that power management was set to home/office desk, when i set it to portable/laptop the temp gradually droped to 42-45. And also place it on the carpet caused the system to get warmer as well.

Don't put it on a carpet, you are blocking the laptop ventilations.
