Just got my nx8220 back from service, where they changed the lcd for a "non-glare" one. Very nice.

BUT.. after a couple of days I noticed a new noice comming from the lower screen area, a vibrating sound that goes on and off. When I adjusted the back-light, I realized that the noice disappears when back-light is on highest or lowest level. Everything between makes the noice go on. The angle of the screen (in relation to the computer) also alters the sound.

I suppose I have to send it back again (grrr...), but the problem is so weird I have to check if anyone else has experienced this.

    best regards, g

that would be the inverter; it converts the 12v or whatever the voltage is from the motherboard to like 110v for the baclkight. its either too tight in the case or bad. they probably put a new one in for that new screen, some of them are noisie like that.

    Grpone,

I didn't know HP came out with "Glare" (Brightview) LCD's for their Business notebooks. Is this something new?

But regarding the LCD noise, it could be a few things:

    1. The FL Inverter, as Alphafox indicated, could be one of the sources of the noise. It probably could just be bad.

    2. The LCD itself. LCD's have electronic components on the back and it's possible you could have a vibrating capacitor only when you have it at a certain setting. This would require the LCD itself to be replaced.

    3. The noise has nothing to do with the LCD, it could be a capacitor problem on the systemboard. Myself and a lot of others have reported this problem on this site. It seems to be related to the Bluetooth module. If the module is turned on, no noise, but once it's off, that's when the noise appears. Try turning on your bluetooth module (in BIOS, press physical button & enable radio using HP's Wireless Assistant if needed).

If it is the LCD or inverter that's causing the noise, then I might suggest getting it replaced. The buzzing noise is already bad, but it could also be an electrical arcing problem. If connectors aren't making full contact, well.....poof in time.

Thanks for your opinions. vb: "Glare" was probably wrong word; my old lcd looked like it had a lot of anti-reflex film or something, just made white colors look a bit muddy. The new one is much clearer, not a shiny, bright-view one, though.

I do think it's related to the lcd itself, not the notorious bluetooth flaw. The thought of a electric colaps is quite scary, think I'll get it fixed. Weird is, still, that the noice totally disappears when backlight is turned to max or min...ยด

    cheers, g

If it only happens when the brightness is not at max or min, then it's definitely a hardware problem with either the LCD or inverter. Try getting the inverter fixed first and see if it helps (since the LCD is one of the good ones now, don't want to get one of the bad ones again). If it doesn't fix the problem, get the LCD replaced as this will be the problem.
