    Hi all

I purchased a HP nx9420 notebook a year ago. It has the Intel T2600 core duo CPU. The laptop has functioned perfectly untill a couple of months ago. It became very slow. I have now looked into the issue and found the problem: The CPU isn’t scaling anymore. It runs at 6x166=996 MHz regardless off load and power status. I have reinstalled the OS twice using HP recovery partition/ recovery DVDs without luck. I have also removed the little “button” battery for some minutes, taken out the extra RAM module and flashed an older BIOS version (F02 and F14 besides F1B). No luck.

All off this, I think, points to a hardware issue, BUT: "Notebook hardware Control" (NHC) manages to scale all the way up to 2166MHz (13x Multiplier) without problems, which kind off rules out hardware problems. (?)

Can’t find anything about the topic on the net. Would appreciate any constructive Ideas how to diagnose or solve this problem. Warranty just went out, ofcourse!

    Regards

    Kulos

    Hi Kulos!
I EXACTLY had the same problem with my nx9420 (Intel T2600 CPU) notebook a few months.

I returned my laptop out of warranty and HP has returned to me without changing anything: no problem found.

I handed the original HDD (I changed with a bigger), and reinstalled the OS with original recovery DVDs and all returned to normal operation.

Hope that will help you with your nx9420 (a great machine!)

    Regards,
    Billy

Try using RMClock to force it to a higher multiplier.
Make sure you turn off any other power saving programs.

No issues here with my nw8440, which also happens to have a T2600 CPU, but now I'm starting to freak out a bit!

Good news is, it sound like a simple HD re-image would work, should it happen.
