My laptop is a zv5415ca - you can see its specs in my sig.
I just got it like 10 days ago
I rebooted, and installed all the manufacture drivers off the CD.
Installed GTA3 - Froze upon running
Installed Simcity 3000 - Froze upon running
Installed Warcraft 3 - Froze upon running
Basically already tried 10 games, they all freeze.
Everything else runs properly. The video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP. I tried to update my video card drivers from ATI Catalyst Drivers. They dont install, they say video card not found. INF cannot be found
I HAVE TRIED ATLEAST 100drivers, some work some dont - but every game freezes.
Can anyone OWNING a zv5000 give me a link to their drivers with the games they run too.
Please this is the only way i know if i should return it or not.
Thanks

Im kinda interested if someone could answer this-- Im having the same problem now that they replaced my motherboard in my zv5000- whatever you do-- if you talk to their tech support take it with a grain of salt.. the one told me to do something that I know would have been fatal to the machine

I really wish I knew what to tell you guys - I have the zv5430us, and it uses the nVidia GeForce 440 Go graphics adapter, and it runs all of the games I've thrown at it.
Not to start a flame war, ok, but are your games copies or the original CD's? One of my kids brought out a cracked copy of a game (Wizardry 8?) and that kept loading and crashing on my laptop, but the other games he has (The I of the Dragin, C&C Generals, etc.) all run fine.
Best thing to do is to check the forums here to see if anyone else has the same model and has resolved these issues.
Best Wishes And Good Luck! -
yes i am trying to run generals (original) too from the CD
still freezes[|)]

Now that you mention it - I had the very same problem on my home desktop system, which has an ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB DDR card in it too. Lots of crashes, WinXP freezes and BSOD's too.
Let me see if I can find what I did there to resolve it - I'll post my findings later this evening, if that's OK with you.
Granted it is not a laptop-based graphics card, but it is y the same manufacturer. If memory serves me right now, I do believe it was a driver issue that needed to be dealt with. I think I had to download and install a completely different driver set, but I remember having to remove ALL TRACES of the old driver first.
Will let you know later this evening. -
See if you can use one of the drivers found through this website:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894
This is the ATI main driver website. Be sure to match up the card/chipset model with what is here and use one of those, ok?
Also, be sure to look for older versions and grab one or more of those just in case you need to roll-back one of the newer drivers for an older one, ok?
Good luck! -
yes I have already tried those
If you read my first post correctly

dont you remember what you did?

One thing I can tell you - you will NOT find a *.inf file from anywhere o the ATI website for video graphics drivers. You must run an installer to get the files extracted ad installed into windows. It's been that way since before the original Radeon card was released.
If you need to uninstall a driver for your card, I recommend going into Device Manager and roll-back your driver to the generic VGA driver supplied by your OS.
Then reboot your machine and try to use one of the other drivers that you've found on the ATI website. Only when you install the driver, you must run it from the executable file, or you will not get a clean installation of the driver & utilities.
This is how I had to do it for my home machine. Ever since then, I have been able to run multiple games with no problems.
God Luck! -
i did a fresh install of windows, installed the latest catalyst drivers
still freezing[:0]

OK, here's what's up -
On my home desktop, I did have to rollback the driver to install and run NeverWinter Nights a year and a half ago. At the time the video driver that came on the CD with my video card did not work at all, it generated BSoD's everytime I tried to run the damn program. So I grabbed an older version of the Catalyst driver (it was exactly 2 versions older than the one I had) and the game launched and ran successfully ever since.
When C&C Generals came out, I had to upgrade my drivers to the latest, as the latency and screen refresh was horrible under the older driver. Updating to the latest driver seemed to work for Generals.
The question I have for you is this: is that 128MB dedicated or shared memory? If it's shared I can see how you'd encounter problems with games. One suggestion I have is for you to check the game publisher user discussion/tech support forums to see what other Radeon Mobility GPU users have done to get their to run.
Let us know what you find! -
Did you research any of the forums like I suggested? Here's what I found in a few seconds:
"Technical Issue for Grand Theft Auto 3 (PC)
My game is crashing. I have an on-board sound chip.
We have found certain motherboard based sound chipsets do not report having a hardware sound buffer, and crash with Grand Theft Auto III. We found that running Microsofts DXDIAG and performing the sound tests, will present the user with an error message saying that a hardware buffer is not supported, and would you like to use a software buffer. Selecting a software buffer will allow this sound chipset to work with Grand Theft Auto III." -
well i didnt manage nething
so basically called up a PC tech guy for tommorow afternoon
if he manages to get it working, ill give a summary on the steps he took[][

Ok it works now!
The Tech Guy fixed it.
All he had to do was open up ATITool, and decrease my clock frequency
He did it from default 300 to 115 and its working normally again.
All games are running fine
