I just picked up an old pentium-era presario 1020 off craigslist for next to nothing. It boots from the floppy and can read the CD, but claims there's no hard drive. I'm assuming the drive is toast or (if i'm lucky) just unplugged. Here's the problem though.. it can't be removed from the outside of the computer, it seems. Did they bury it deep in the bowels of the machine? do I need to try to take the whole thing apart to get to it?
thanks!

A lot of laptops have one more lids on the bottom, one to access the hdd, and usually another one to access the memory. I don't know this type of notebook but I'd check for those first
-
On this one there's a door for memory, and the battery slides out the side. Everything else looks like it would take some digging to get to

Hmmm, that doesn't sound good, and no one that does know that notebook replied i see...
You could take of the back first if it doesn't look that hard to do. Sometimes they hide hdd under the keyboard two, so if that's easy to pop out (most of them are, but sometimes there screwed in) i'd check there first. I've tried to do some searches on this model, but all i could find was someone who was looking for a manual on this laptop. Wouldn't happen to be you would it?
Goodluck mate, sorry i couldn't be more helpful. -
Update: I found it! Not such a bad design after all
There are 3 screws that hold the palmrest on. with the palmrest removed, the HD is revealed! So now for the bad news.. the HD is fine.. looks like there's a small tear in the ribbon cable that goes to the motherboard though..
probably not an easy part to find!
