I orderd a dv6700t on wednesday 1-23-08. I had Quit a hard time getting my laptop accepted. I had to talk to hp 7 times and every time was to verify my information. It turns out that because my billing and shipping adress were differant they needed too conferm my order.
It turned out in my favor because i checked the config online again and now they offer a 2.5ghz core2 duo and a recovery dvd.
they say a ship date of feb 5th but the guy i talkrd to said it may be done by the 1st.

    I don't use Nero. But I really like 64 bit better then 32bit. I think it's faster. Though I haven't really don't any benchmarks so I don't really know.

I guess you should go for it then. But I see you have 2GB. It's really not worth it unless you need the extra 2GB and want to get all you can out of your system.

o ya id go to 4gigs and that costs a 3rd of what hp wants.
    $120 for 2 2gig sticks
hp wants $300 to upgrade to 4gigs
thats just a stupid price how can hp ask that much when it only cost them probly $20

Why don't you guys get fingerprint reader? It's great addition to any laptop! I can't live without it... Never need to put passwords once entered - just swipe your finger!

    I've got the fingerprint reader.

There are some naive people that in desperation would purchase the 4 gigs. Yea I know it's not worth it but people that can afford it pay it, in order to save time and hassle of purchasing another 2x2GB sticks and discarding the 2x1GB sticks.

They are pretty much charging for the hassle it'll save some people.

By the way, when do you think they're going to come out with 4GB sticks.

Or do they have them yet?

i havent herd off 4gig sticks my computer excepts 2 2gigers.
i guess people who dont know anything about replacing ram would think it mite cost more to have some 1 do it. after all you should be paying less for a upgrade then it would cost to buy it seprate.

I was reading the thread and wanted to ask about a dv9500t I'm looking at.

Do they offer the 2.5G chip with machine now do you know?

Also, I was going to get the 4G but could easily upgrade with 2x 2G sticks it not too hard. Is it easy to do?

Going for the 9500 vs the 6700 for the bigger screen. More of a desktop replacement than mobile tool.

Was also going to stick with 33bit Vista as have heard potential compabaility issues with 64bit.

    Any thoughts welcome.

    Thx (novice laptop buyer)

yes the dv9700t comes with the 2.5ghz core2 duo.
get the free ram. 32 bit vista only exepts 3 gigs sono need to go to 4 gigs it wont be ableto use it.you only need 4 gigs for the 64 bit vista
changing ram is as easy as removing all power (batt and cord) removing 2 screws ground your self(touch the frame of the laptop) pushin the tabs on the ends of the old ram pop the new in and push down. it takes about 2mins

You might just want to stay with 2GB.

It's not really necessary to get 4GB unless your a hardcore graphic designer. etc

    Thanks guys on RAM guidance.

One additional Q: Is the "Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer Enables High Definition video playback and large storage capacity" worth getting over the basic "LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support "?

I have no idea. Does Blu-Ray show well on this screen or is it not really enabled for this high definition?

    Screen is "17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition Ultra HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900) "

You wont really tell much of a difference and frankly, it's not worth it.

Blu-ray is still in the beginning stages, I say give it a couple of years. I don't think it's worth the money vs. value. stick with lightscribe. Then again I'm not buying the laptop. It's your choice.

Try doing it somewhere else, if it still doesn't work, I would suggest starting a new thread about your problem. Someone else might have had the same issue and found a way to fix it.

Would it be possible to maybe add a screenshot?

    Hi folks, :)

Q1: Isn't HP in general and specifically
    dv6700t over-rated?

Q2: Why is HP charging this High prices again ... it was giving discounts and right before Intel's Montvina platform ... HP jacks up the proces on Santa Rosa stuff ... does that make any sense!?!?
Just for that I am going with Sony Vaio FZ .. looks cleaner.

Q3: @Ford737 ... I did not realize HP in dv6700t model offered Hitachi 7200 HD?

@ Yitz ... unrelated to HP ... boy that Dell XPS of yours looks tempting ... but I bet cost you and Arm & a Leg. I guess I might the 3rd type of person "What Happened"! :D

    Thanks,

    G!
