145F is pretty toasty for a hard drive. Are you sure those temps are accurate?

yup i have the NHC software for all the notebook temps/controls (notebook hardware control)
so your saying that this is above the normal temp for a notebook, even when playing a game?

anyways i plan on upgrading soon my hdd because im running out of space, i went for the 60gb drive, cause it was a free upgrade from hp when i purchased mine. but here is a few i want to upgrade to. sort of similar in price.
    Seagate Momentus 7200.2 - Hard drive - 160GB - internal - 2.5in - SATA
will this fit my notebook? (see sig)

    or this one

Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVS 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive
not sure if this one will work with my notebook either. (see sig)

so which is better? faster RPMs or bigger hard drive space? does it have any significant difference on the battery power and performance?

oh yeah, right now just browsing my hdd temp is at 126F.

Perhaps there's something under the hard drive that's causing it to get really hot. On my V2000Z, the chipset was directly beneath the hard drive, causing it to get nice and toasty.

When you decide to upgrade, look for a hard drive with a good warranty. Seagate is known to stand behind their drives with 5 year warranties, which would be good considering excessive heat would likely increase the probability of a hard drive failure.

Using the usb for a cooler is hard on a notebook. Get one that has it's own power source.

I will be getting one in a week or so. I don't know which one though. What I do is use the AC power at home and when I'm using the battery on the road, I either don't take the cooler, and if I do, I use usb then. It is okay to usb sometimes, but not all the time.
