I have a small home network which include a couple of laptops and a couple of desktops. Every single computer is connecting via wireless. Not more than two 2 three are "on" simultaneously.
For some reason copy and paste operations over the network from and to my dv9500 (vista home premium) are terribly slow. Not only does it take forever to calculate time remaining before it actually starts but the speed of the transfer itself is always in the 500 to 800 KBps range which is ridiculously slow for a home network (even wireless).
I guess i should say all other computers in the network are running either xp pro or home and the transfer rates between them have not changed since the arrival of the vista machine. They transfer files between them in no time. I guess they dont like their new vista friend (my new dv9500).
It is pretty safe to rule out it being a router (d-link 524) problem since the speed is still there when i use any other computer. I'm assuming the problem is vista and not my dv9500's hardware.
I have searched for days and days only "fixes" that don't seem to fix my problem.
From my readings online i find this is a very common problem among the vista community so im guessing someone here already went through this nightmare and can help me out.
Please help me out here... H E L P ! ! ! !
Alex
p.s. two things i've tried that i found online are disabling the "remote differential compression" and also disabling the "windows meeting space" from the windows features. Both of these made no difference. HELP!!

I've never heard of a working solution that did not involve installing XP instead.

I read Vista file transfer speeds drop to almost nothing when running video/audio files at the same time...hmm

But as you said you've already seen this stuff so not much help. Personally I never transfer files over wireless anymore, which is a shame. It's just faster for me now to plug in a 500gb external via usb 2.0, transfer, then go to the other computer and unload :\ Grr Vista...
Edit: Greg beat me to it -
yeah... already came a across the windows media player bug... but since i dont use wmp that cant be the source of the problem...

You will have to wait for SP1

There's no need to wait for the final Vista SP1. You can get Vista SP1 RC from the Microsoft downloads. I've been running it for several weeks without problems.
Or you can work your way down the list of Vista downloads looking for a performance / reliability patch which addresses network transfer.

many of the performance and reliability packs for vista have some type of fix for this
-
Isn't there already a fix for the audio bug?
-
thanks for the tip john!
one question though... if i go ahead and install Vista SP1 RC will vista still update when newer updates come out? or will this "confuse" the OS in thinking its more than updated?

On your DV9500, can you go online...say to "speakeasy.net" and do a download test? Let me know....I'm hoping that you don't have the "wireless" connection problem that I and many others have experienced......slow speeds, trouble connecting to a network, etc.....but mostly SLOW speeds equivalent to 28.8 or 56K modems.
-
actually my problem is not regarding internet speed. My problem is when transferring files from one pc to another in my home network. Thanks though

Get Vista SP1. Cured lots of network related problems for me. 802.11g gets about 27mb/s on local transfers.

Anyone find the patch file in the list yet. Without having to install the SP1 RC1?
Thanks
painfully slow network transfers in vista :S
