    Hi all,

    I've a dv5-1160 notebook with windows xp.

The optical drive (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561S) disappears while I'm using it. For example, If I'm watching a DVD film, the optical drive disappears after 10 minutes approximately. I can't find it in the device manager. I have to reboot the computer to see it again.

I have NOT installed any "burning software" like nero. Anyway, I deleted Upper filter in the registry (there wasn't Lower Filter) but the problem persists. People from HP total care didn't gave me any solution (ok...install Vista again).

I've read that AHCI interface system will cause optical drives to disappear:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928253

I don't know if this is the problem. The solution offered by Microsoft is to enable PATA (Parallel ATA) emulation in the BIOS setup but there isn't an "advanced menu" to do it.

The model of the optical drive that appears in the device manager is: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561S

I'he been looking for a solution and I can't find one, any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance
