Hello!![]()
my cpu is an AMD Turion 64 MK-36 2Ghz cpu, im just wondering, can i replace this with an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-XY (XY being 52, 56, 60 or 64)? It seems that my cpu "matches" with these ones after looking at this :

if not, why not?
Thanks

Yeah, as long as it is a TL series Turion, it should work fine on your system considering it is just a variant of the dv6000z series. Just make sure you update to the latest BIOS before installing the new cpu.

Will everything in my laptop be compatible with the new cpu? e.g. ram etc Also, this might sound as though im a bit dim, but i just want to clarify this, if i get the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 which is the 1800Mhz, does that mean my processing willl have a potential frequency of 3600Mhz? thanks

Yeah...HP sold the dv6000z series with the Turion TL series as well. The MK 36 is just a Turion TL without the extra core.
No, not exactly. The two cores will provided added benefit over a single core running at 1800MHz but it wont make your system run at twice the speed. You are going to be limited by the software you run, if it is not dual core ware (as in not capable of distributing its work load between the 2 cores) then its just like running on a single core processor, however you do have the other core which can take care of background tasks. Of course, these days there are software which can take advantage of multi cores much better and in such cases you will notice the increased performance. For everyday usage there will be some performance benefits but compared to your MK 36 it wont be an extraordinary bump in performance. -
so, do you reckon its worth replacing my MK-36 fot a dual core one, or instead to just buy a new laptop (in a couple of years time)? Becuase the laptop is sufficiently fast at the moment and a dual core doesn't improve my performance so much i dont see the need to replace...
