hello, i have a 17" pav dv7 that is constantly overheating and shutting itself down whilst streaming video etc. i think it is the processor that heats up to the point where it hits its threshold and powers off. ive tried everything, cleaned out the vents, repasted the CPU and still no joy. Ive spoke to a few owners and they all agree that the dv7 cooling is shambolic. next try is to simply buy a good notebook cooler.

anyone else suffer from this issue? i suspect so

Keep in mind the cooling system's intakes are exclusively on the bottom- so what you set the computer on may make more of a difference than any other single thing you could possibly do.

If a good cooling pad (aluminum surface- something like the Zalman NC-2000, for example) doesn't solve your problem, you may need to look to undervolting... or service, since while modern notebooks DO run hot, shutting down due to heat is not normal behavior.

I have a similar issue with a friend's laptop I'm working on. It's a dv7-1135nr, so it has the AMD Turion X2 RM-70. The CPU has been overheating (in the 90s(c)) while doing basic tasks. To remedy this problem I tried cleaning the CPU off with ArctiClean and applying OCZfreeze. This didn't really seem to help the temperatures.

Another thing I noticed and I wonder if you guys have noticed the same, is that while the notebook is at these high temperatures, the fan is screaming and the air coming out of the exhaust doesn't seem to be that hot at all? Strange. This air should probably be scalding hot. Kinda seems like the cooling system isn't working properly or maybe the heatsink is not seated properly on the CPU. I noticed this occurrence pre and post new TIM to the CPU.
