    pesario 1685 start error

    hi,

    will not boot up, just says "operating system not found".

    went into setup, selected CD drive first, inserted winME Cd rebooted, but still get same error.

    Any help?

    Lol this is the Compa L not Compa Q thread. But I'll bite. Do you hear your hard drive spin up? I think your HD failed...

    If he inserted his winME cd and it still failed then I don't think it is a hard drive issue. Though I haven't been a computer technician for long, if the hard drive is dead the cd should still boot without getting any errors.

    Not if the HD is set to boot first. The bios is still detecting it as a bootable media so part of the data is still there but the bootloader probably cannot find it so it just hangs there.

    Or maybe just change AHCI option in BIOS. Worked for me one time.

    LOL if he isn't actually going into his boot menu to boot from CD then your right.

    One other thing to try. If you have an XP cd boot it and use the repair option. Then do a chkdsk /p or chkdsk /r depending on how bad the situation is. This might solve a corrupted boot sector. You could also try a fixmbr if the mbr is corrupted.
