my old desktop c2d 2.9ghz, 2gb ddr2 ram with a 9500gt seems to play 720p videos more smoothly than this laptop (i5-2430m, 8gb, 7690m xt, fHD screen)

i've tried both setting the gpu option in bios to dynamic and fixed but doesn't solve the problem. everything is updated to my knowledge. it's like it skips some frames or something.

im playing .m2ts and .mkv's file types in vlc.

is it the specs? what could be the problem or that am i doing wrong? lols. TIA!
