This is the most frustrating thing in the world for me. I want to see Transformers and my HD DVD palyer will not play it correctly. I use Quick play, at first it would not play anything. I then downloaded the software upgrade. It started to play then i was siked then this green flash apppears. There is sound but the green flash appears over and over. It appears to me this might be some type of copyright protection kicking in?

PLEASE HELP I REALLY WNT TO SEE TRANSFORMERS IN HD.

Have you got the latest version of Quickplay? I think its version 3.6. Have you contacted HP? I found their chat service to be quite useful. I've got an HDX so I cant help directly im afraid. Hope it works out though.

I have a 9260nr and I am having the same issue. I have downloaded the latest version of Quickplay 3.6- still no luck. Tonight I am going to try the newest version of PowerDVD... not sure that it will do anything but I'll let you know...

All I want to do is watch this movie in its true HD glory!

    update:

chatted with HP support. They recommended updating video drivers --- that didnt work. Next they suggested re-install the recovery version of quickplay. that didnt work.

After that, I decided to update to the newest version of quickplay again...Still didnt work for Transformers, but worked for 300...until I tried to connect via HDMI to my sammy dlp (HLR5678)....

    Still stuck

Well, add another person to the list for this problem. I, too, went round and round with HP's chat people... about 7 conversations worth and NADA! No luck what-so-ever. They told me the same thing -- download & install the 3.2 update, reinstall version 2-point-something from the recovery manager, etc. etc. Eventually, I tried getting someone to send me to the correct URL for the activation of 3.2 (since it told me to activate when auto-launching the DVD which sent me to a dead link) and they told me to upgrade to 3.6  . I even sent them a link to this forum entry and their own HP forum where someone reported the problem, and they didn't know what to do  . The last person I talked to blamed it on the disc, but I have believe if we're all having this problem it's not the disc. If ANYONE has the answer to this, please send it! I've been doing everything I know to fix this and stuff I don't know what to do... I NEED a Transformers fix! ;)

Well, my answer was simple. Got a standalone Toshiba HD DVD drive. The A2 can now be had for less than $200 at CC, Amazon, and Wally World. Combine this will the 5 free HD Dvds deal and no need to deal with HP customer support!

I think we need to all send our laptops back to HP. Why is there a HD DVD drive in this think if we cant watch HD dvd's Bad enough the res is only 1220x900 but we cant even watch the thing. This is just stupid. You know they are doing nothing to actually fix the problem and just left it for us to be frustrated with.
I have a DV9380 put me back $2800.00 Last March and for nothing but this crap

Yep me too, I have a DV9260NR and I have the same problem. I think it is to do with the Nvidia drivers, as I got Transformers to play in Quickplay 3.0 but it was jerky and I could'nt watch it after 2 mins.

In powerdvd, any nvidia driver I got to work was not compatible so far I have tried about 10.

I have been download drivers from laptopvideo2go as we all know about the problems getting a driver for the Geoforce Go 7600...don't get me started on that. It takes 2-3 reboots to load a driver so it takes forever to try and few.

Basically I have a $2000 laptop that I have been only available to play 2 dvd's on : 300 and Knocked up!

I still can't get Babel to work (green flashes) and also now Transformers (!) this is a pain, HP should not be allowed to sell laptops with these drives if they will not work or they are not equiped to provide solutions.

In the UK where I come from there is a consumer protection law that says if the product you buy is not fit for the purpose it was sold to you as then it is fraud and you are entitled to your money back.....A HDDVD equiped laptop that does not play HDDVD's....

Its most likely a drive fault. I have the HP HDX, and Transformers HDDVD plays wonderfully. I am thinking that the HDDVD drive in both laptops are the same (may not be, HDX may have a better one). Best bet is to contact HP and get them to fix the fault.

    Sounds very much like hardware

Hey everyone i have the same problem with the HDDVD drive, ive gone through several copies if 300 and a few different HDDVD's and nothing has worked on my dv9500. I was lucky enough to have my first copy of 300 play but after about 2 minutes of the movie it froze and the drive has never been able to load any HDDVD's since, I have also tried nearly all the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com an updated quickplay and still nothin.

This whole situation is really disappointing, ive always really liked HP but i have had nothing but problems the first laptop i ordered from HP had a faulty LCD and i had to send it back and now my second cant play a single HDDVD. Does anyone know if we can get refunds from HP USA regarding this issue?

Im not sure if this helps but this is my system: (Purchased mid-august 2007)

    Dv9596xx
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)

Well, I have an escalated support request in with HP. They are supposed to get back with me some time this week. I literally spent 3 hours on the phone with someone in India who tried to help me, but to no avail. If they come back and say they don't support the issue, I am thinking Class Action Lawsuit for false advertising. Who's with me??

    I THINK I FOUND A SOLUTION!! FINALLY!!!... :D

I don't know if it's a combination of everything I downloaded and installed, or what...but this was the last thing I tried installing and I can now see Transformers HD DVD without a problem.

I went to www.tweakforce.com and downloaded the Xtreme-G Mobile nVidia Drivers. Here are the links...

    32-bit
    http://www.tweakforce.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_o
    p=getit&lid=85

    64-bit
    http://www.tweakforce.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=86

I didn't have to adjust any of the settings on the control panel which was loaded in the folder installed to my C: drive. Now...it's possible this fix is a result of the combination of things I tried. For example, I downloaded CyberLink's PowerDVD Ultra software and a trial version of AnyDVD software. And who knows?? Perhaps it was one of the multiple things I tried altering, but I'm thinking it's these drivers.

Hi Thanks for the tip, I donwloaded these drivers and tired them but I get the same problem. Playing transformers is really jerky and gives me a headache to try and watch it.

Its almost as if the purevideoHD has stopped working and the PC can't keep up.

    It's not fully mature technology.

I got a dell 1520 with bluray reader. Updated everything. I borrowed 4 blu-ray DVD's from friend. 300, Rattatoui, Superman Returns all played great in BD but Spiderman 3 just would not play.

If you read HD forums there's always reports of incompatibilities and disks that just won't play on certain players. Usually it seems a software problem of some feature not fully supported by particular hardware, player software or buggy HD disk software.

I have an HDX which plays transformers on HDDVD without any problems.

Although i had to update Quickplay 3 times for it to play ok. just launch Quickplay and download it's updates.

Maybe what i would do is to recover the laptop to factory settings, then install the newest video driver, HDDVD driver and update Quickplay a few times.

Also badger HP to send you a replacement HDDVD drive.

Also in regedit, remove the upper and lower limits (google it for further details) and set the DVD region in device manager to "not selected".
