when i left click on the battery icon in my notification area, the option to select a power plan is gone. the "more power options" link is still there, and if i click that i am taken to power options in control panel where i can select between high performance and power saver only (and the balanced plan is gone altogether from my control panel).

i did a system restore, then wiped off some bloatware and installed battery bar. i removed HP power manager, but i thought that was for something different.

any ideas what could cause this, and how to fix it?

    thanks.

Honestly, the battery and other plans are pretty much pointless... they just change how long it takes for the computer to go to sleep when inactive, hibernate, turn off monitor, fan options etc... It would probably be a better idea just to create your own anyway based on what you need.
