I looked at HP for a Maintenance & Service Guide for the C500t and there doesn’t seem to be one available. I also did a little googling and found a couple of ebay keyboard replacements that fit models R4000 R3000 V4000 V5000 C300 and C500. Can’t say for sure, but the C500 looks alot like a V5000 so take a look at the Maintenance & Service Guide for the V5000/V5100 and see if it looks close. If so, the keyboard removal instructions are probably the same. HP often uses the same mechanicals for different models.

    Check pages 5-23 & 5-24 here:

    Hope that helps.

Excellent !! If you could, please post your detailed results here when you’ve completed the repair. It helps to build the knowledge base for those that follow.

    ….. and bother to do a search :) .

This guide was spot on,everything went smooth, unplug the laptop, take out the battery,(after i took out battery a pressed power button to drain out any power left). Then you take out two screws from were the battery was, they have a arrow pointing at them, then turn laptop right side up open lid as far as it will go then start to pry up the top cover plate. It is hard at first to pry it up,but once you get a corner poped up it comes out pretty easy, the cover is tougher than it looks.
Once cover is off you take out the four screws holding it in and out comes the keyboard. My ribbon pulled out with ease, but you have to push forward the retaining bracket, which is brown in color to pull ribbon out or install it.My ribbon must have been worn in that area as it pulled out without pushing brown bracket forward.Just reverse to install new keyboard.
All in all it went smooth no problems at all new keyboard works great.

Excellent deal Razorjack. Sounds like your keyboard swap went off without a hitch. Now we all know first hand that the C500 and V5000 are essentially mechanical twins. Good info!

    Thanks
