I have a strange problem with my hp pavillion dv2500 laptop computer.
It use to get hot quick and I was neglected to maintain it well for about 5 months as I have so many other things to take care. It is now getting very hot too quickly.
Now it started giving me problems on starting the computer.
On each re-boot it is behaving weird.
Sometimes it shows 6 login screens and screen will have images shrinked having test blurred out. after couple of restarts its prompt me to repair the windows After I repair; it either starts normally or again comes back with 6 login screens. Even it starts again normally it won't stay more than 30 mins and it automatically shutsdown and restarts with 6 login screens and prompts me to repair the window again. it is keep happening
I contacted HP customer support, but since it is out of warranty period they couldn't really helped me but mentioned to me that it may be a problem with the mother board or video card. But I believe if it is a hardware problem it should behave consistant
What I am thinking is a heat problem with a corrupted OS. But not sure. Any body have any idea how to get out of this problem
my laptop configuration is :
Intel core 2 duo 2.4 g hz processor
4 GB RAM ( 2x 2GB)
250 GB Hitachi hard drive
Windows Vista Business 32 Bit OS
Nividia Gfx card with 64 MB viedeo memory
Appreciating your help in-advance.

Get HWMonitor and post your temps.
I suggest re-installing your OS. -
thanks you so much ahl395 for the quick response.
For sure I know they are above safety temparatures and must be higher than 60 C.
Ohh yea; Next thing I would try is to do a low-level formating and re-installing the OS to get rid of any possible virusus and taking unnecessary processes away from my computer. -
Even low level formating and re-installing did not help me get out of the 6 screens. Any ideas

Check if your notebook is on this defective list. If it is, then you are still eligble for a free repair even if your original warranty term has expired.
-
It is on that list. I stil have no permanent solution for this.
It is not happening all the time; But it automatically shutting down sometimes without any notice and turning on with 6 login screens.
Any suggestions -
HI,
I have exactly the same problems as you have with my HP dv25xx. Just wonder if you have found a solution for it.
I checked with the computer shop, and they said the motherboard need to be changed, and would cost up to $500.
THanks -
Same thing happened to me, I got it replaced for $250 (they discounted it cause it took 2 months), then it happened again (so they replaced it free cause X% of hardware fails w/in 48 hrs or so). I thought it was fine after that... nope... happened again thursday night. Its in the shop right now, I'm going to fix it then sell it.
They really need to recall it. -
whoa it seems to be a problem with all dv25XX models i have a dv2500t model
with same issue ,i am lucky my notebook is still in warranty and i sent it to HP to repair, they said that there is some hardware problem. it should come to me in couple of days. -
Hi! Just want to share to you my HP dv2520 problem. I bought my notebook last august 8, 2007 from dubai and experienced a problem during start-up last year on August 7, 2008. It won't start normally after 2 days of not being used. On a daily usage I'm not experiencing any problem with it but when I was not able to use it for at least 2 days it won't start normally as if the system crashes and it goes to F8 where I was given a choice on starting with some other options. After 2 hours on safe mode and not doing anything but idle, it went ok after restarting. This problem went on until now. I called the HP customer service and relent my problem but all they can say is sorry because my warranty expired just a day short. They told me to bring it to an accredited service center which I did. The technician who went to diagnose my laptop told me that its not a new case for him and he could never recount how many times did he change other motherboard of the same model (dv2500). He says that its the motherboard and he is also sorry that the warranty lapses. He also told me that the replacement of motherboard will take not less than 2 weeks and will cost me $600. I bought my unit for only $800 and I dont think it will be wise to spend another $600 for a repair that they cannot guarantee. I skipped the repair and went on using my laptop with the agony of waiting for a couple of hours before becoming normal. I noticed that whenever I use safe mode it turns out ok so I suspect that there could be a hardware error. I did the hard disk and memory check and the result is ok. I tried defragment and it is still ok. I did downloaded a lot of updates but it didnt resolve my problem. The customer service representative (which by the way is in India) told me they will give a call but upto now no call was made. I was hoping for a recall for this product but nothing was announced.
Just a couple of months after purchasing my notebook I recommended HP to my other friends and 2 of them bought HP laptops and the other one shares the same problem with some of you and the other had her battery recalled. I was very disappointed with HP. I should have listen to my sister that I should have bought a Toshiba laptop. Now, those who ask me about notebooks and laptops, I told them to buy Dell or Toshiba but not HP.
I was able to seek customer service just days after my warranty expired. The customer service gave me a case #. Im hoping that HP will give me a reply on this issue. However, if there is someone out there who has the same problem please let me know what you did. Thank you. Kudos! Thanks! -
Sorry to break it to you guys, but you have just joined the very crowded 8400DEATH club. Congrats. You've just been royally screwed by Nvidia and HP.
I am a member too (see signature).
All you can really do is call HP tech support and demand to talk to a case manager, and I mean, demand it. Make sure they know you're not getting off the line until you speak with a case manager. Then explain to them that your Nvidia GPU is dying and that you want it REPLACED with a new GPU, Intel whatever. Continue to explain to them that if they just pop in another 8400, it will die.
Hit them with the information listed here and ask them why it is that Sony will fix their laptops a full FOUR years afterwords but HP screws us over even if it's a day after the 1 year warranty expires. Let them know that this chip was defective FROM THE BLOODY MANUFACTURER, as frikkin Nvidia decided to use bad solders and that the GPUs are destined to die. Do some googling of "8400 death" and "Nvidia faulty GPU" and what not and get a few links ready to throw at the case manager when you get them on the horn. Make sure you inform yourself pretty well, the information listed should suffice but the more the merrier.
Really, all I can say is to call, raise all sorts of hell, and hope for a solution.
I would have done that myself but I am currently abroad so I am SOL.
Oh. And if they tell you it's only for AMD CPUs or whatever let them know that it's a GPU issue and not a CPU issue. The CPU does NOT effect the BS solder points on the bloody GPU. That BS list of theirs is just to limit the # of laptops that they would have to fix. Only having to fix specific laptops is a whole lot cheaper than having to fix ALL laptops with an 8400 in them.
G'luk.
And remember, they are going to put up high walls to prevent themselves from having to fix your laptop. You're going to need to get a battering ram and just keep pummeling them over and over and over again... eventually, you will break through. -
Not really sure about how to get on this forum, but I'm having problems with my laptop HP Pavillion and recovery.I've purchased a recovery cd from HP,but when I run it and it finishes, the recovery massage states the recovery fails, and have tried it twice.
