i have an envy 17, so far i've had this happen to me 3 times with 2 different blu-ray playback software (total media theater 3 platinum and hp media smart)...

after starting a movie, a few minutes into it the playback become very slow and choppy. after closing down the program, my system is running like molasses, even after a restart.

the only way i know of how to resolve is to reinstall the video drivers.

    additional:

this is happening when playing a movie unplugged from power. the power plan i'm using doesn't make a difference, it occurs with any power plan i'm on...

so what's the point of a laptop if you can't put it on your lap and watch a movie but need to be tethered to a power outlet ?

i take it im the only one having this problem ?

i emailed support about it and got the folloeing response, which i find funny:

Form you email I understand that you are experiencing issue while playing blu-ray disc when it is not plugged in the AC Adapter. The video is choppy and the movie can hardly play correctly I would like to inform you that the blu-ray disc used high definition of graphics so it required a lot of power consumption. If you are running the disc on the battery supply, the maximum mount of battery power is consumed by the blu-ray application. I request you to use the notebook with AC Adapter plugged in while running blu-ray disc or high end application.
