Guys i have a brand new (1 month old) dv2500t. I absolutely lovvvvvvvvvvvvvv it. But i am not able to resist the new penryn model out there.
my laptop has the following specs:
core 2 duo 2.2 ghz
2 GB ram
nvidia 64mb 8400M GS
currently , i get 2.5 hours of battery life when i dont play games.
I am planning to take :
Intel T9300 2.5Ghz
4 GB Ram
128 MB 8400M GS
Vista Ultimate
My questions are:
1.Would i experience a lesser battery life due to the processor(considering mine is 2.2 Ghz and T9300 as 2.5Ghz)
2. Will there be a loss of battery life due to increase in the RAM
3. Will there be software/hardware issues with using Vista Ultimate being a 64bit OS
4. Will the be a drop in battery life due to the change in the memory of the video card( from 64MB to 128MB)
Thank You very much. Waiting for your comments.

as u have not specified the exact types of battery u r having and planning to buy the exact nature of battery life cannot be predicted...however these tips might help u
1.) there wont be any significant decrease in battery life as the penryn series is deigned to be more efficient that the merom class processors also a difference of 300 Mhz will not be much an issue....
2.) RAM needs very little power to keep it refreshed...i dont think u will notice any difference in battery perforemance here
3.)No.....Intel core2 architecture supports x64 excecutions so such a case does not arise
4.) as i have told already memory needs very little battery. however an increased clock speed of the RAM can sometimes cause a small peak in battery usage -
The Penryn processors are manufactured on a 45 nanometer process, which means travelling distances for electrons and other paritcles is less, resulting in less energy used, and transistors are placed closer together and more tightly, resulting in less heat loss through gaps.
I'm a physics guy, so I love this stuff!
You should be able to get more than 2.5 hours battery life with the 6 cell battery, my 17 inch DV9500 gets me 4 hours on lower settings and wireless off, and I've got a Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA 8600M GS (overclocked), dual hard drive (more power requirements due to more moving parts), etc etc.

Unless you're in the return policy for your old computer, upgrading every month to keep up will just put a huge burden on your bank account. Be happy with what you have, something new's going to come out every few months, and you'll never be able to keep up.

Your more likely to see an INCREASE in battery life rather than a decrease, after all that's one of the new penryns main selling points over merom.

moreover can u enlighten me more on the benefits of 64-bit OS -
Read the 64-bit guide below.

tat was a good post, thank you friend

i didnt mean that vista x64 will work with the same software setup....what i meant was that it will work with full performance in ur pc....most softwares will work fine.....however drivers and some hardware related stuff will have to be those released separately for the 64 bit system

I think the T9300 is way too over priced at least in Asia now.
The T9300 is 230US more than the price of the T7500, and it is only 4 percent or so faster with a bit longer battery life according to a couple of German reviews.
I am so disappointed with its benchmark result, compared this to the score of the T7500, not much faster............only 2 percent ?
I thought it would be at least 10 percent faster than the T7500.
I think you better just keep your money , not need to spend this much to get this small performance increse.
I think unless you have less then T5xxx or care about battery life , it is not worth the money to get the T9300, at least I concluded like that.
Also, on the 965 chip set, it may be a waste. -
Clock for clock, eg. 2.6Ghz Merom vs. Penryn the performance difference is 5-10%.
Also, people that have upgraded their laptops from T7500 to T9300 have commented on how fast the new processor is.
