    question about HP warranty services

    can anyone explain to me the process of warranty service repairs? how long does it take to get the laptop back? do they really damage the laptops when you send it in. i have been hearing a lot of those the last time i visited. my problem is considered a small problem (spread of blue dots on screen-not stuck pixel problem), would the HP tech see it? it also doesn't happen all the time. also i hear they sometimes replace the wrong component and the problem is still there when you receive it. anybody haave any input?

    I think your a victim of the squeaky wheels. I'd suggest you start with calling HP and see what they have to say.
    Just document you calls, who you spoke with, time etc. If you do have to send you pc in then take pictures first.

    thanks. what do you mean by the "squeaky wheels". have you had a repair done on your laptops yet by HP?

    The warranty service sucks. I had a screen flickering problem (2 months after receiving my DV5T) and sent it in. It was repaired and I received my laptop back 6 days later. However they left a huge scratch/chip on my quicktouch panel and the frame of my LCD was badly scratched. So I sent it back in. They tried to charge me $433.31 to repair it. But i was not going to accept that. They did the damage and I had pictures of my laptop before sending it in as proof. To make matters worse, no one from Hp even attempted to call me and inform me that this (the charge) was happening. I found out when I logged onto the website to check the repair status. So I had to get a case manager and dispute it. I received my laptop almost 2 weeks later. My hard drive was completely erased (which was not necessary to fix a scratch!). So hp sucks!!! My suggestion is to take very detailed pictures of your laptop before sending it in, check on your repair status online daily, and back up your hard drive.

    The last time I sent a laptop to HP, I actually enclosed pictures of the laptop (top, bottom, screen, and keyboard) next to that day's newspaper (proves the date the pictures were taken); this lets the techs know that you have proof of the condition of the laptop prior to sending it to them. Also, you can make a case for not sending your HDD by telling them you have sensitive financial info on it.

    but when is the point where you would show the pictures? and how? also theswadragon, didyour laptop get damage

    you would need the picures if HP damages your laptop, tries to blame it on you, and refuses to repair it. In that case, you would need to take them to small claims court and use the photos as evidence. HP would most likely settle before taking it to court, but the pictures are proof just in case you need them.

    2 GREAT ideas theseadragon. Sending photos to HP along with the proof of the date is brilliant. :D One poster also suggested sending a video to HP with the laptop explaining (and showing) exactly what the problem is.
