i just bought a new wd3200bevt for the dv4t laptop. i observed that when on idle or doing little work the hdd temp maxes out at around 50 degrees. is that normal or too hot. what should i do if that's too hot? i am using the 12 cell battery most of the time so it is elevated a bit.

    thanks

Normal temp to me but mine idle at 45'C

I swapped out my Fujitsu HDD (OEM stock HDD) for a WD3200BEVT just like yours from a WD Elite Passport Portable External drive... yeah I broken the enclosure a bit.

you're talking about your hdx-16 right? i guess that should be right since you have a bigger laptop then mine. and yeah i did have a fujitsu before this one too and it seemed like it was way hotter then this one but i can't tel for sure since that one couldn't measure temperature.

50 degrees celcius is normal. Although I don't think it should be much higher. Last time I read some info about hard drives, I noticed they mentioned that your hard drive life is reduced by half when it increases by 10 degrees celcius (so from 50 to 60 degrees for example). Although i'm not sure if this is true, and a normal hard drive can last up to 10 years, although 5 would be more realistic to expect.

Size doesn't matter. I believe most laptop design the HDD is pretty much far apart from CPU and GPU to remain cool.
