i have a dv4t that came with vista home premium 32 bit installed. will the clean install method on the sticky work if i want to upgrade to 64 bit? will the key also work if i use a windows anytime upgrade? or can i only use 32bit OS?

The key is version specific, but not architecture, so 32bit or 64bit. An anytime upgrade dvd will work just fine to do the change, they can be found, without a key, for a couple bucks and are legal. You may be able to use your restore DVD if it reinstalls and just does not restore an ISO of the original install.

Make sure your anytime upgrade version is x64. It will be ok to start from there.
