i have a compaq f572us that i bought from walmart last august.
i have been noticing lately that when it gets hot it decides to slooow down performance wise. i don't know if it has done this before, but i had just started noticing this, probably due to the fact of all the gpu/cpu overheating threads..LOL
is there any program i can use to monitor my temps
thanks

There's Everest and HWMonitor.

If it just started to get hot recently, then that could mean a hardware problem might exist. Just to check off the BIOS though, did you check for any updates?
Secondly, have you noticed any weird noises coming from the notebook since it started getting really hot? Any high pitch noises that are constant? Loud fans, etc? -
nope... no noise...i hardly hear anything from the fan at all
it just seems like it starts getting hot it gets slower..like programs stop responding, things take longer to load.
nope haven't checked for any updates..should go do that. -
I am assuming that it is safe to say that your notebook is similar to mine in the design of it (mine is a Presario F557WM) so the fan is most likely in the same location as on mine. While using the computer, wait for it to start warming up and then lift up the entire system. You now want to listen for the sound of a fan spinning. The sound may not be too audible, so you may want to make sure that there is as little ambient noise in the room as possible. If you don't hear any sound coming from the fan, it could be possible that the fan is faulty. In this case, you may want to either send in the computer to have the fan replaced (HP will charge an exorbitant fee for this) or order a replacement fan yourself and install it.
Best of luck! -
okay i just installed hwmonitor..
my gpu (nvidia geforce 6100) is at 79 to 81..and it says max 85
my cpu (amd athlon x2 dual core processor) at 51 for core 0
and 52 for core 2...it says max 58 for 0,
and 59 for 2
ACPI temp is at 46
max 55 -
nope..hear the fan..gotta love the quietness..

OMG....
Your GPU is having an orgasm or something.
That's 185 degrees Fahrenheit. -
Only a little hotter and you can use your GPU as a stove.
-
this is the first time i monitored it..i think we could say why it likes to slow up when it gets hot. i will keep monitoring it. -
well its staying around the 85 mark...
could this have anything to do with it being an nvidia gpu? -

i looked at that..
but i don't have any of the symptoms stated..just the heat issue.
so i suppose i couldn't get a free repair..eh? -
or does this quailfy anyways...
-
Is the laptop still under warranty. If so, use it. If you are out of warranty, call in and explain the issue and tell them that your notebook is part of the repair recall.

I know it's really not my place to butt in or disclose this type of information, however to cut out the middleman here is the number you'd need to call. Regular TS can't authorize an out of warranty repair.

nope..still have my warranty. i got a 1 year from hp and i have the one that walmart offers too. i'll go look at my warranty again.
thanks for the number. i will do that tomorrow! -
Well, you better hurry up and get that warranty extended by HP.

I would suggest, first checking to make sure the fan/vent is clear.
I got my wife her Compaq C712US on Black Friday, and I took it apart about 4 weeks ago to check the CPU socket type, and the heatsink/fan was absolutely FILTHY! This WILL affect cooling!
Get one of those $5-6 cans of compressed air (Radio Shack / CCity / BBuy) and blow out the vent area - it will usually be visible on the edge or bottom.
Then see if that helps.
T
question on my compaq lappy..
