    hi everyone,
I have a dv6000 and I just restored my system after a failed upgrade to Vista. everything seems to be back to normal, but I noticed that when I use the Quickplay volume slider, it shows me two volume bars: the regular green one, and another grey one with speakers. is there any way that I can disable the second one? it's rather annoying... I updated my Quickplay software and tried looking everywhere to correct this to no avail. please help!

    thanks in advance.

The regular green one can be disabled in the BIOS...not sure about the other!

How did you downgrade? just remove new version from control panel -> add/remove?
and which version has that 2nd bar and which one doesn't, and can I install the 2nd bar on winXP.

how do you get the bottom bar to appear on vista? I must've disabled it while I was on xp and maybe it never got reenabled. Right now I don't have a bar at all when I press the volume or mute buttons

Yeah, just uninstall from Add/Remove and download & install the older version from HP. The latest version is 6.10B should have the second bar(although in some cases it fails to appear) while 6.10A doesnt.

For some odd reason, the volume slider doesnt appear in Vista even with the latest version.

Can I use the version 6.10A or B with winXP Pro.
I regularly check for HP software update using their link in Start-> All Programs, but it didn't show this new version available. Is there any other way to automatically check for newer versions of HP softwares.

HP update program is useless for drivers from my experience...the best way is to go to hp.com once a month or so and search for updated drivers for your system.

You can use either 6.10A or B with XP. I would use 6.10A since it has better customization options for the quickplay/DVD buttons which HP removed from the 6.10B version.

I've pavilion dv1000t. I checked on HP website, and it shows current version as 5.2G and not 6.1A (which is under dv6000 series).
Do you know if I can install 6.1 version on dv1000 model, or how do I find out.
I would like to get that volume bar. and if 5.2 version has the volume bar.

Stick with 5.2G since the 6.10 was designed for newer HP systems which included newer buttons for the Quicklaunch buttons and the there might be conflicts with the newer drivers. If you just want the volume on screen display then take a look through this post...

I used the above trick to get the on screen displays for volume and mute buttons on both my systems and it works perfectly fine.

Thanx miner, I'm already using those files to get a green color on-screen volume bar. I was wondering if its possible to change color, but since its .exe and .dll file, it may not be simple.
I'm using dv1000 model and I guess thats why HP software update didn't notify of version 6.1.
Anyway, thanx for your suggestions, someone with a newer model can use it.
