Trying to decide between the r4000 and the zv6000. I know they both pretty much share the same hardware, but are there any addtional reasons to lean toward one or the other? I know the r4000 has a metal latch for the lid where the zv6000 is all plastic. Is one built better? Do any of them have any addtional standard features then the other?? Thanks.

zv6000 has crappy infrared which is not included in the r4000. the only difference is cosmetic. i personally like how hp looks, but for some reason it seems like a lot of people like compaq. i think they tag their name over the notebook too much. haven't seen it in detail but i bet the latch lid and inside are noticably tagged compaq. hp color is more appealing to me too. just my opinion.

    Snyperx,

Not only is the R4000 cheaper currently, but it will be an even bigger price gap come next week (Officedepot will have several rebates making it a no-brainer)

I dont think the name tags are excessive. There are 3 places where the name tags are placed - one outside cover of the LCD (every laptop maker places their name tags here). There is one below the screen and one more on the latch lid. They are nicely proportioned and are not too big or gaudy to look at.

Regarding the differences between the ZV6000 & the r4000, it is purely cosmetic & the price. Generally the compaq's are a little cheaper. There are no differences in build quality either.

With the HP you can buy a remote and use the computer as a multimedia device from afar. With the R4000 you can't do this. Then the R4000 is .12 pounds lights. Other than cosmetics, the differences end here. As for price, just build both laptops and weigh all of the above as to which is better for you.

I appreciate the respones, but I am no closer in deciding which one to get. I suppose the IRDa is a none factor since I am not going to use it as a media server (it's suppose to be a portable machine after all). If that is the only major factor then I guess it is mostly a cosmetic choice.

    Thanks,
    Snyperx

It's funny I went to Best Buy last week to do just that. Came away from BB with a no decision. I suppose I they both have pluses. I know after configuring each machine at hpshopping.com the Compaq came out about $50 more then the HP. I found that odd since the Compaq's are usually a bit cheaper then the HP's.

    Thanks,
    Snyperx

I just received my Compaq R4000. Here's my specs:

    Compaq R4000
    60 GB 5400RPM
    Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4ghz 1mb cache
    128MB xpress 200m
    15.4 BrightView screen
    2 GB ram
    Bluetooth
    12 cell battery
$1648 after $30.00 rebate (The same HP was almost $500.00 more)

I had a eMachine 6811 that I sold to get the R4000. The Compaq rocks! I'm not into games, but use my laptop for Oracle and VMware.
I want to get the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 100GB hard drive when it goes on sale.
