If your laptop originally came with XP, then you won't have any problems. The problem people are having going from vista to XP is that HP is no longer creating XP drivers for the hardware of the new machines.

You shouldn't have any problems just make sure you install the correct drivers.

The only thing you might have an issue with if you do a clean install is the SATA drivers. If you look at the sticky threads you will find that you can slipstream them into a XP install disk and then you'll be fine. I don't know if this will apply to your laptop, but I've seen other people do a clean install of XP and they still needed to slipstream the SATA drivers into the install disk. Check out the sticky thread how to install XP on your DVxxxx and it will explain how to do it.

Don't worry, if your laptop came with XP installed on it (which it did from what you are saying) it will work fine. Were you able to find that Sata driver and slipstream it into the XP install disk?

If you couldn't find the thread for it here it is:

Also, what model laptop is it?

Glad everything worked out for you. It's always amazing at how much faster computers are once you do a clean install and you are rid of all the bloatware and crap HP software!
