    Dear Community,

Hello, I am about to buy a HP G60t for my sister. I would like to know if this laptop comes with a CD/DVD burning program. For example, my old HP Compaq came with Roxio RecordNow!.

While configuring my HP G60t, I get the impression that I have to buy the Cyberlink DVD Suite Premium 6. Obviously, I would like to avoid buying this software if the laptop will already have a similiarly-functioning software installed.

I have searched on HP's website as well as on the internet for answers but all to no avail.

And I would also like to know the same for the HP Pavilion dv6t and dv4t. I plan to buy this for myself.

I apologize in advance if this thread is posted in the wrong place.

Thank you very much for your help! I appreciate it.

    Sincerely,
    Joe

In my experience, if a laptop comes with a CD/DVD burner, it will most likely have a CD/DVD burning program. However, as to which program will be installed, it is anybody's guess.

Even if the HP G60t doesn't come with CD/DVD burning software, there are many free alternatives available on the Internet that do the same things as their non-free counterparts. A favorite of mine is ImgBurn.

My favorite choice for a free burning software is CD BurnerXP which runs seamlessly on both XP and Vista. Go for the latest version which is 4.2.4. There is no harm in trying it out.

In my case, I stopped using paid burning softwares once I got my hands on this particular software nearly a couple of years back.

Both ImgBurn & CD Burner are excellent programs. I find ImgBurn better to burn DL DVD's, although it tends to be a little more complicated. The guides on it's website forum will answer most questions. CD Burner XP is very simple to use. Generally the burning software bundled on a new laptop is a lite version of one of the commercial programs. I must admit I tend to steer clear of them.

The HP's ive purchased usually come bundled with Roxio. Dont worry though, theres lots of freeware programs that work much better.

Thank you all for your replies.

To give you an update, I've contacted HP and two different customer reps have insisted that I must buy a CD/DVD burning software. I quote the email I got: "To answer you question, Joe, you need to purchase a DVD/CD recording software".

I suspect it may be a ploy to get me to buy more, but I will not fall into their traps. I shall use the freeware programs!
