Hello everyone. I ordered a Presario v5000z a few days ago, and it should be built by 15th Feb. So during the waiting, I am hoping to obtain more information to ease my transition to the laptop.

First issue: I selected a "80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive" as my HD storage option. May I know from current v5000z users what brand of HD that is?

I am asking because one of the first things I will do is to wipe the HD and install a WinXP and GNU/Linux dualboot, so if perhaps the HD manufacturer has a proprietary partitioning software (e.g., Maxtor has Maxblast for creating and deleting NTFS/FAT32 partitions), I can take care of the WinXP re-installation more easily.

Second issue: I am thinking of installing (K)Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger as my GNU/Linux distro. Anyone know if I will encounter problems with driver support for any of the components in the v5000z, such as wireless card, video card?

    Thank you.

Man, I just looked at mine (same 80gb 5400 hd) the other day. IIRC, it is a Fujitsu. No idea about the linux stuff, though.

Update:I tried to install Kubuntu 5.10 on my v5000z. Although the install completed successfully, I could not get to the KDE logon screen. I checked the Kubuntu forums and it appears it's got to do with some X window config problem. Restarting the KDE desktop manager does not work. Computers with either newer Nvidia and ATI graphics chips are both affected, so I cannot say I am that impressed with the Kubuntu right now. I tried an older MEPIS Live CD and it worked.
