I have 2 -17" laptops purchased 4 months apart which have almost identical configs. My laptop is the dv9700t purchased in April -- my husband's is the dv9500t purchased in December. We are going to replace his C drive and reinstall clean (I have my printout of the Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION ready to go.)

I don't have access to his laptop yet, so to save time my idea is to put the new C: drive in my 9700, install everything & get it configured, then replace his C: drive with the new one. Please shoot holes in my theory....but I'm thinking this will work. The only difference is mine has an upgraded video card (both NVidia's) and mine has the blu-ray DVD and his had the HD-DVD.

    Thanks for any info shared.

Theoretically, it should work without a flaw. I'm assuming both notebooks have the 8400/8600m GS, Intel processors and Realtek sound. If that's the case then it should work fine. I'm not guaranteeing it, because problems arise from nothing and when they're least expected.

Great, that is good news...yes on the video, Intel and Realtek sound. My processor is I believe is the T9300, his is the T7700 and his has the fingerprint reader and mine doesn't but I'm thinking none of that would be a show stopper.

uhmm...I'm exactly sure about the FingerPrint Reader issue. I don't think it will conflict with the actual drive, but I did have one incident where a computer would not boot-up because of the FP drivers not being installed.

Thanks for the heads-up, I have the discs handy with all of the drivers if needed.
