Ok, I just received my replacement laptop for my old compaq v3000, the motherboard went out and hp just decided to replace it with a new dv2700t SE. I know its not the latest and greatest but the specs kill my old laptop. Ok so a few questions and issues first.

    1. I want a fresh install of vista sp1, can I download a Vista OEM SP1 torrent and use the key on the bottom of the laptop for a fresh install? I saw the sticky but it just seems like too many steps to me.

    2. I requested the free 64bit vista upgrade yet it came with 32bit. I do a lot of graphics design (photoshop, after effects etc..) and plan on running 4+ gb of ram, so should I call up HP and see if will send me the 64bit disc? I've read about the whole 64bit and 3.25gb of memory deal, so just wondering.

Other than that the laptop is great, its nice to have a dedicated GPU even thought it is a lower end model, it is still better than what I had. Im burning the recovery cd's now so I have a hour or so to make up my mind on a fresh install or trying to get rid of all the bloatware manually. Thanks!

    1. Follow the instruction here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228

    2. Yes. The first thing you have to do is to talk to hp and they should send you the 64bit media.

I suggest you check again all Discs that came with your laptop package and see if there is a 64 bit Vista Disc somewhere, although they shuold have upgraded and that's it. Good luck

Yeah, I read the sticky, and essentially I need a oem disc for a fresh install. I already copied over my swsetup to my WD external. Just need to get a disc from a friend or download an OEM disc tonight. There was no disc included in the box, as usual nowadays. Do you think it would benefit me to get the 64bit disc? I mean I originally asked for it cause I was under the impression that it works better than the 32bit version, specificlly because of the 4gb+ ram issue. Other than that I love the PC. I cant download the OEM until later tonight though so I am kinda stuck with a new computer, and cant do anyhting to it cause Im gonna re-do it all tonight :( maybe il try to undervolt and run some benchmarks for fun.

You really don't need 4GB. I barely use 3GB and I multitask intensively.
