There's another thread on this, people are calling HP and having them send out new recovery DVDs.

If you can connect your laptop to another computer, copy the SWSETUP folder and burn it on the other machine. If you have a copy of Vista, and the SWSETUP folder, then you're good to go with installing a clean version of Vista.

yes they do unfortunately. Hp use to ship out multiple discs. One was just the operating system and the other was software and drivers. The reason for this was because they used cd's back then and couldn't put it all on one disc. Now they use DVD's and put it all on one disc. Before you had the option to pick what got installed. Now you don't.

The only way to get rid of that stuff is:

    1) Clean install using a retail disc of Vista
    2) Removing it through the add / remove programs. (still leaves some things behind)
    3) Use a program called PC Decrapifier . http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ You can read all about it at their website.

Get the latest recovery manager software from the HP website. I had an error when i was burning my second DVD and it just wouldnt create it. I installed the updated software and it worked.

It has mixed results. I have not used it lately. It worked decently on my last HP laptop. My friend tried it on his new Sony laptop and it did not find much. It also doesn't mention anything on the website about working with Sony. The worst case scenario is it doesn't find all applications. Might as well run the program and see what it finds and go from there. It will not change anything till you tell it what to do.

Honestly the best way is to install via the anytime upgrade DVD and use the provided tool in the sticky on this forum.
