I have a HP pavillion zv5000 notebook. It is used it belonged to a family member. I went to HP online and ordered the recovery disks so i could clear it out. The recovery is like nonew i have ever seen before. I have done a recovery from disk on a desk top before. I switched my BIOS to read disk first. my set came with 2 disks a windows operating system CD and a applications and driver DVD. well i placed the first in and it ran asked about partitioned space HP told me to delete and create new so i did it ran but never asked for the 2nd disk. after windows installed i waited for it to ask for 2nd never did so i put it in. It registers through my computer in the D:/ drive but will not auto run. Can someone please help me!!!????

I have never used the HP recovery disk. If the 1st disk restored windows. The 2rd disk might have the drivers. If not call HP.

    Finnessa…

I believe Blad is correct, and those units did not come with “Recovery Disks” that restore the unit to its original software configuration. The disked you received from HP are (1) a Windows XP install disk, and (2) a driver/software disk. I can’t remember, but I don’t think the driver/software disk will auto load and will require you find the individual drivers (which aren’t always obvious). If it does have auto load, it will be in the root of the disk. Look for autorun.exe or something close.

Before you begin though, you really should know which type ZV5000 you have. It’s either a ZV5000t (Intel based) or a ZV5000z (AMD based) system. To figure this out look at the tags on the underside of the unit. There you will find your Windows Key (write it down) and your model number. Compare the model numbers with the following HP list:

    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...pe=s-002&h_query=zv5000&submit.x=4&submit.y=6

If that doesn’t work, the number may also show something like this (DL228AV). If it does, just google the number and you should find the specific model fairly easily. The reason you need to do this is because the system drivers on your disk may, or may not, be the most current… even if you find them all. So once you figure out which unit you have, go here ( http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html) and input the model number, select download drivers, and review the most current drivers.

At-any-rate…. If you already have Windows installed then you’re halfway home. Do the following then check back with your model number if you need additional help.

    1. Check for and install the latest BIOS. You said you went to the BIOS to change the BOOT order, so I take it that you know how to do this. Check the BIOS version and if required update it from the HP download page.

    2. Next, install the chipset drivers, video drivers, audio drivers, NIC, modem, wireless, cardbus controller, & touchpad drivers

    3. run windows update… if XP… upgrade to SP3

    4. If you have devices still not identified in Device Manager, it is most likely the Quick Launch buttons, card reader, or Bluetooth if equipped…….

    5. Last check for firmware updates for the hard drive or CD/DVD drive.

That should just leave you with just installing any additional software. Intervideo DVD… and what ever else may be on the disk you want. Oh, and that partition that you said HP told you the install disk would create, it may be for 10MB partition for Quickplay. JMO, but pain in the butt and not worth the effort…. but that’s up to you.
