    I'm trying to pick out a budget notebook, and there's so much stuff to look at, uhh!

    Right now I'm considering HP or Dell. Are HP notebooks RELIABLE? (I will be taking it to Europe for school)

    Thanx =))

    Between Dell and HP I would say that HP has the better build quality. If you post this in the Dell forum then alot of people will say that Dell has better quality. I purchased an Inspiron 9300 and quickly returned it as the LCD was messed up. I later purchased a HP ZD8000 and have not turned back. The Dell had some give when typing on the keyboard and the track pad was grainy and way too small.

    The HP is alot more sturdy and has no give when typing with the keyboard. The only bad thing about the HP I got is it runs a little hot, but that is because it uses a desktop Pentium 4 CPU instead of the Pentium M CPU. Personally, I think the major brands will be pretty similar in terms of quality. Dell, HP, Gateway, and IBM will all yield about the same quality.

    It really depends on what you want in your notebook. I suggest going to Best Buy, Circuit City, or some other store that sells HP's to take a look at them and kinda test drive them. I also suggest finding a Dell information center (normally located in malls, look online for more info) and messing around with their notebooks.

    I think HP is as reliable as Dell, and vise versa.
