What can i expect from applying new thermal grease to my cpu temperature wise? Is it worth disassembling my laptop?

Depends what your load temps are currently. If they are high, then yes repasting and cleaning out your laptop with compressed air will work wonders. If your temps are already in a good range then you have nothing noticeable to really gain from a repaste. Post back with some temps.

on idle with intel i get around 40C idle with 6770 is around 50C with oc. After an hour playing a game its about 79C with oc.

I always re-paste, it gives me anywhere from a 5-10C drop in temps.

I would recommend a repaste if you basically hit 80C after an hour. Also use a can of compressed air to get the dust outta there.

My new dv6t quad gets to 95 degrees in heavy gaming with the 6770,
idles in 50's, light work in 60-70s. HP says that is perfectly normal for this laptop. You have a lot of power in a 15" small form factor with an i7 quad you are going to get heat with all 4 cores going. You could use coolsense and lock it at 2ghz, it won't go much above 70 c, but less performance and less noise. I thought of repasting, but it is not like repasting a desktop. I have looked into it, but it looks like there is way too many little parts and things can go really wrong trying to put it back together, not worth it for 5 degrees, your laptop won't last significantly longer. Intel's TDP is 100c, so under that and the chip should last longer than the laptop! -
I would definitely not agree with HP on your gpu. 95c is not a safe temp in my eyes, but it is considered by manufacturers as "safe operating temps". To me BS.

Definitely calls for a re-paste at that temperature, that will reduce the life of the computer over time. Also, consider investing in a cooling pad.

It is not the GPU, GPU is at like 80 or something.
It is the CPU i7 2630 that gets to 95 when running at
normal performance mode and loading all 4 cores (8 virtual).
If I run it at coolest mode it caps the cpu at 2.0 ghz instead of 2.6,
but doesn't get over 70ish, even with high gpu intensive games.
i7 is just a hot beast of a chip to put in a relatively slim 15"er -
Repasting in this laptop looks way too risky imo. I have fiddled around often with desktops and few older laptops but its a tight squeeze in this laptop...my temps are higher then most I believe, I want to repaste but...yeah, lol, just hoping that I can send it in near when my warranty is going to expire or something and ask them to repaste it for me, even though it will be a shoddy job once again.
I'll post back tomorrow or so with basic processing temps and gaming load temps for you to compare.
Oh, also...i'm likely just going to try building a custom cooler over this Christmas break, I've heard it does wonders if its isolated directly into your vents. If you want to give it a try I'm just going to be using case fans to a 12V adapter and pop it on a Notepal U2 with insulation strips. (Sorry for the vague description, but it really is going to be made how you see fit) The results for this might take a long time though...
repasting worth it?
