I trashed the hard drive on my hp dv6605, but fortunately I made a backup to my mediasmart server (LX 195) before this happened.

If I get a new laptop, can I restore selected contents from the mediasmart backup of the old computer to the new computer? The old laptop was Vista, and the new laptop will probably be Windows 7, but I am just looking to get some files, not the entire OS.

Alternately, I could get a new hard drive, but it was about time for a new laptop anyway.
