I clean installed win7. Now I need to restore the factory image.

i see on the d:\ there's a base.wim recovery image, but i can't figure out how to restore from it.

windows recovery disc won't detect or load it.

anyone know how to get this back to factory state ?

If you did not format your disk totally you should be ok. F11 will do it, unless you did something else?

If you are going to keep the laptop burn some recovery discs.

i thought F11 would work, that's why i formated the C drive. But I kept the D:\ recovery partition.

it turns out that HP has a stupid setup where if you clean install an OS on C:, the recovery partition doesn't work anymore with F11.

Doesn't matter though. I just clean installed again, and it's going back to the store. HP can deal with refurbishing it.

I believe it have something to do with the boot record/MBR, but as long as they see windows logo when turn on, I guess they can careless.
