well, I have heard this from someone who probably would know, I can't say any more about where it comes from but, I think I have some info on the new HPs coming out this summer. HP is launching a new value level computer to replace the Compaq Presario F700 series, its going to be called the CQ50 and will be based off of the new AMD Griffin/Sable CPUs (Sempron,Athlon x2 and Turion x2 and the TURION ULTRA) but with Nvidia GeForce 8200 graphics. The boards will be able to take up to 3gbs of DDR2 and will work with PC26400/800mhz SODIMMs. Now, for the mainline Pavilions, they are getting a change of naming convention, instead of a dv3000/7000/10000, they will be the DV4/7/10-1000 and so on. We may get the dv3000 over here, or they may just call the dv3000 the DV4, I really don't know. The biggest changes are that the Optical drive will be swappable with a HDD module, an eSATA port and HDMI 1.3 replacing S-video on most models. No news on LED LCDs or backlight keyboards. I may hear more about this or I may not. Oh and the only other big news are the plans to include accelerometers (as in the Mininote) for the HDDs on the new models to prevent damage due to drops and so on.

Any with AMD/ATI chipsets?
-
maybe in their mainline replacements but not in the CQ50.
-
what about HP business , is there any new business model ?
-
As for the CQ50, is it going to be branded under the Pavilion or Presario moniker?
At any rate, thanks for the info. I'd been hoping the new units would appear in June, but oh well.......... -
you never know, they COULD be out in june, there is also going to be a pavilion version of the CQ50 but they deffinatly will get the Nvidia Chipset. I haven't heard anything on the ATI chipset so I would kinda doubt it. The naming thing apparently is Model wide so the HDX will get a some changes but probably in name only. Also expect a mid-life of the tx2000 series named, you guessed it, the tx2500, no info on what will be new there though, probably just an update to the new griffin CPUs.

what about blu ray in dv2000 series damnit..
-
I'm surprised no one has made an announcement/discussion on it yet, haha.
This is the US site btw, I dunno about other countries. -
HP Partsurfer has an entry for the Compaq Presario CQ50-100 Notebook PC, but there is no real component data yet......

yeah if things keep going the way they are I think that HP might start to loose out sales wise. From what I've been told about them, I think the new Inspiron line coming out is going to wipe the floor with them. For once they are at least AS Stylish as the Pavilions plus they are going to have the LED display and the backlight keyboard, and they look like an XPS. By the way the HP version of the CQ50 will be the Pavilion G50.

A refresh to the business lineup is due around October and will feature Montevina and ATI graphics solutions (or so rumoured). There are already model designations for them, in the form of 6930p/8530p/8730p. No major design changes are planned, as HP intends to maintain the form of its business lines consistent like Lenovo. We expect to see the introduction of a webcam option, keyboard lighting and brush aluminium finishing. Take all this information with a pinch of salt.

HP to launch PC line for teens (the actual CNet article says PC products, so I don't know if it'll actually include PCs) -

No it's not. See the link in the article.

meh the touchsmart pc isn't that "cool" its basically an oversized tablet pc.
-
They're talking about the PC, not the laptop (tx).
I think it's fairly cool myself, although too expensive for what it's good for. -
by the way just thought I would mention that the tx series are supposed to get a slight refresh, tx2500 and so on, I am not sure if this is going to entail a major upgrade or just switching up to the griffin CPUs. I can also say that as far as I've been told the tablet is still AMD only, it MAY be seeing an updated NVidia chipset.
-
One thing, if they are going with AMD's PUMA, they really wouldn't need Nvidia graphics. PUMA includes an integrated graphics solution that can be coupled with an ATI discrete for a sort of hybrid solution. Whole thing sounds exciting none the less. Might be better than an Intel Montevina solution overall. Hopefully it'll be out by July as I would like to purchase a tablet by September. -
wow thats pretty awesome if its true

really I have not been told too much architecture wise on it, and even all the new ones, my source hasn't even seen pictures yet or received SOLID information on the specs of the new dv line up, just on the CQ50/G50 because they are supposed to be released first. The only thing he mentioned is that the style of them is going to use the "NEW CORLAB DESIGN" which is probably going to incorporate some sort of continuation of imprint. Also I really can't confirm or deny anything about an ATI/AMD chipset other than theres not going to be one in the CQ50/G50 series, and all I have on the tx2500 is the name. Now thats it for solid evidence, going with my gut, i doubt your going to see the Puma platform, not right now anyways, while Montevina will come out, its only going to be in the high end dv6000/dv9000 replacements. I also doubt your going to see discrete graphics in the tablet, its probably just going to switch to Nvidia 7150 graphics or the like, and its going to stay AMD only. Again, everything I said after "my gut" could very well be wrong, but thats just how I think HP is going to play it with their new line up.
EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention something as well, new AC adapters, so the old ones are not going to be compatible with the new models. -
just another update, looks like the "corlab" finish is going to be the same as what the dv3000 has overseas, (Silver, silver keyboard, rounded) so put that together with how the mini-note looks and you'll get an idea of what it looks like. The only other news is that the G50 may be launched with a different name to conform with the rest of the pavilion lineup.
-
There are details of the TX2500 models here.
Looks like Puma is going to be part of the refresh! -
I see that HP has already posted demo videos for the dv4, dv5, and dv7 models over in their "Interactive Demo Central" website. There also appear to be Compaq Presario equivalents for the Pavilions: The CQ40, the CQ50, and the CQ70 models.
Interactive Demo Central -
The business notebook refresh which I expect to incorporate brushed aluminium finishing should be just as great.
Preliminary HP dv5 specs:
Centrino 2
Puma
WXGA display option only (again, poor choice), but Infinity LED backlit
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT (at least they listened and do no put in crappy graphics card like the current generation)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 (for Puma platforms)
BluRay option -
I'm actually hoping that HP doesn't change the business line that much cosmetically; it looks great as it is. The last thing it needs is bright brushed aluminum IMO.

I wonder how much smaller the DV4 series is than the DV2's. Looks like a 14" screen DV3000. These new HP's are looking good!

Still, the HD 3450 implies that they're using AMD chipsets instead of NVIDIA and that's VERY good news. The AMD 780G chipset in the last desktop system I built ran amazingly cool with a passive heatsink, no heatpipes or anything fancy. The laptop equivalent should be very impressive.
The HDMI 1.3 and eSATA ports are a nice touch too. If they use Atheros for the WiFi on the Puma models I may just have to upgrade. -

Very excellent finds.
Anything on the upcoming HDX? -
-
Looks like they fixed the tiny "shift" key problem on the dv9000 on the dv7, but now they made the arrow keys too small. As someone with a dv9500, it's a deal-breaker. Their inability to get this right causes frustration for me every day, all because they don't want to ruin the rectangular keyboard shape by bumping down the arrow keys by one more row.
Interesting that the eSATA port also serves as "an additional USB port".
5-in-1 card reader is nice. I hope they give WUXGA as an option. -
I found this a few weeks ago, it has a few rumors about the changes to the business notebooks:

the new dv5 series looks great, its a shame they have increaced its thickness IMHO, but it has some nice features like the integrated TV tuner, and the illuminated logo is very... mac.
So if these are announced next week when will they be available to buy?
EDIT: are these likely to be released immediately with montevina chips? -
Have they really got thicker? I was hoping they would be thinner than my current dv6565. -
-
dv5 (2.65kg)
35.7 cm (W) x 25.9 cm (D) x 3.49 cm (min H) / 4.19 cm (max H)
dv6800 (3.10 kg)
35.7 cm (L) x 25.7 cm (W) x 2.54 cm (min) H / 3.96 cm (max) H
dimension's are from the specs leaked on the HP UK site.
Also heres some specs from the spanish site for anyone thats interested.

Mark your calendars for June 10th.
HP/Voodoo collaboration to be unveiled:
http://www.electronista.com/articles/08/06/02/hp.voodoo.crossover.plans/
Possibly an all-in-one on the order of the iMac. Would be sweet if they made a 20" and 24" AIO with Nvidia or ATI enthusiast grade graphics.
Which might mean that they are discontinuing the HDX. -

This new Gigabyte laptop has the ATI Radeon HT 3200 integrated graphics. So the TX2500 is getting an upgrade.

It's possible for the AMD PUMA versions, but with Montevina's delay, The Intel ones probably won't go on sale until next month. I think the announcement on the 10Th will concern desktop G45/P45 chipset. Most likely a sleek All-in-One to counter the iMAC and Dell's and Gateway's One. It's the only thing HP doesn't have that requires an introduction event. -
@Jay
Nice find. Looks like that'll be my new tablet. -
