i want to know if its safe to run the presario v5000 screen @ 85hrz instead of 60 i uncheck that box that says it could damage the screen, will it or am i just peranoid?
-
yes it will eventually burn the screen and it wont work as of what ive heard. lcds arent like crts which can handle more than 60hz but it also depends on resolution. i wouldnt suggest raising it but its up to you.

I would be careful claiming stuff like "it's going to damage your screen"
It's more likely to do a big -no- difference. Much of the discussion of refresh rate does not apply to LCD monitors. This is because while a phosphor on a CRT will begin to dim as soon as the electron beam passes it, LCD cells open to pass a continuous stream of light, and do not dim until instructed to produce a darker color.
Windows interpret it as 60hz, but should be N/A to be exact.
If you can change that value, it is most likely because windows didn't detect the LCD as being a LCD. -
To support my idea, I pictured a CRT (old tube) monitor with a digital camera and a LCD to illustrate the concept of refresh rate.
You will see that with the CRT monitor it is hard to catch the whole image, as the beam passes thru the screen. Higher refresh rate will accelerate the beam, thus producing a more pleasant feeling with the screen (fewer flickers")
With the picture of the LCD, you will notice that you can get a perfect image, thus the concept of refresh rate in terms of "hertz" being irrevelant. We talk about response time, and this is a whole different thing, which is totally unrelated to the original subject being if it could harm the monitor.
The answer is definitively NO. Stick with 60 Hz, or whatever value you like, it will not, in any case, produce any different result. -
And video looks best at 60hz. At other refresh rates some video frames will have to wait longer than others for a screen refresh witch will make the video play back jumpy.

Refresh rate does still apply to LCDs, the windows setting for refresh rate also controls how many updates the video card sends to the monitor.
However, unless your LCD has a response time faster then 16ms, it won't be beneficial to up the refresh rate since it'll just cause more ghosting as the LCD struggles to keep up with the faster rate of changes. -
Actaully I can not tolerate less than 85Hz on a CRT, but on LCD that does not matter.
running higher screen hrz on v5000
