Let me share some of my thoughts first about buying from hp online store shipping etc.
first of all i ordered my hp customized laptop from hp online store and everything went absolutely good (lucky me..i got my lappy 1 week before of estimated time) and i recieved my laptop 2 days ago..
my laptops specs are as follows:

so my lappy`s problem is..
the screen gets dark after some time and if you touch the touchpad or pressing some buttons on the keyboard doesnt make screen to wake...
i just lean the screen down (till it gets very close to the surfice) and then lean back upwards and its getting normal...
it started to annoy me and i chated with hp total care guys and they helped me a lot (i should add that they are really working good overall im statisfied with their service) but my problem is still there...
i tried to do some power menagment adjustments but it didnt help me...
but overall im happy with the system and ultra bright screen is absloutely gorgeous.. i love it..![]()
any sugestions on that issue will be greatly appriciated..
thank you in advance..
*UPDATE* I FOUND A SOLUTION GUYS...
If you are facing the same problem as mine
Just right click on desktop personalize > Window Color and Appearance > choose Windows Vista Basic
thats it.. everything is normal as it should be from the beginning
i tried some advanced settings, updates installing/unistalling graphic card drivers, updated BIOS to solve this problem but i never thought this could be Windows Vista Aero problem.. And suprizingly solution is that easy all you have to do is changing Appearance in Vista..
I've just changed appearance on my friend's notebook to aero and it gave exactly the same problem..
If you are reading this and have the same problem i hope this tip will work for you too..
Thank you guys for suggestions and help..

Control Panel > Mobile PC > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Put the computer to sleep: Never
-
thank for ur reply but its already on never... i mean i did it before thought it is going to solve my problem.. but the wierd thing is.. its turning off when im still using my laptop and it happened twice when i was typing this... turning off and doesnt let me do anything till i lay down and then up... well 3rd 4th and finally it turned off 5th time while i was typing this.. lol
-
Try updating your display drivers also is the battery in or are you running on AC -
Turning BLACK while typing? That's strange and looks malfunctioning... There is no POWER OPTIONS Problem in this case. I would try to reinstall the system if changing drivers won't help.
-
if the problem still continues i will reinstall the OS...
im using it for 1 hour already and the screen didnt turned off till now..
(screen turn off is set to never by the way)
and i run bios update as suggested by HP Total Care rep..
do you think that is vista or graphic card driver problem??? -
looks like graphics driver...but you will see what's the problem...that bloatware of HP's bothering too, so I recommend to make a clean reinstall
-
Just to ask the obvious...
It's not a blank screen saver kicking in, is it? One that would require you to push the Esc key to get out of? -
one more thing guys: do you think without doing anything, like backing up system, saving some data etc. can i just put my recover cd into dvd player and run it from bios (f11) and make a clean reinstall.. do you think without following these steps mentioned here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=120228 i will face some problems? -
My dv9500 screen is doing weird stuff too...
I have mine on picture screen saver which rotates pictures and videos in my "picture" folder. Sometimes the pictures and videos would play in color, but sometimes in BLACK & WHITE!
Sometimes I hit the keyboard or touch pad but it would not get out of the screen saver mode. I have to hit the power button to get it out of screen saver.
Sometimes hitting the power button doesn't get it out either!
I insert a CD then it would wake up the computer.
I have the power management option to take the laptop into sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. Sometimes the screen saver goes on for hours without going to sleep.
Anyone ever experience anything similar?? -
As I've already stated... and no one took any notice...

As far as your problem goes, that solution does not sound right. Your notebook should work properly with Aero enabled -- that's the point of getting something new. If it does not work right, you should not "just deal with it" and press HP for an answer. If you don't get one, you have 21 days to return the system, no questions asked.
I have a dv9500 and have not seen the problem you are having (assuming I understood your problem correctly). -
i was in the US (FL) for vocation and i didnt have extra time (vocation was long enough and i had lots of things to get done in my country..) to deal with return policy or whaterver its called.. i can do this in my own country.. (Afaik hp warranty is int'l.)
anyone facing the same problem before they return their laptops back or send to repair center i stongly recommmend to update bios, reinstall graphic card drivers, turn off vista aero and make a clean reinstall.. i still think this problem coused by windows itself.. i tried aero on my friend toshiba laptop (intel t2080, 2gb ram, 160 gb hd) and screen turned off after sometime and the laptop didnt respond at all..
and i dont give a f*** about vista aero... IMO its not worth sending the laptop to repair centre and wait for weeks for a stupid app which i dont need/use at all..
may be future updates come from Windows can solve this.. but as i said before i dont care about it..
cheers.. -
I agree on editing the first post -- it's good to have the info in 1 place. But it's also good to post a reply saying, "I found a solution, I added it to the main post" or something.
Anyway... The point of returning it for repair is that Aero is something that's *supposed* to work, if you use it or not. If it doesn't work, that means there's a problem with the laptop, and it should be fixed. Yeah, doing a warranty repair is a pain, but it also increases HP's cost and forces them to improve their quality in the future.
