Hi, I had my laptops motherboard replaced. I just want to know if it really retains its old serial number (found in the bios) eventhough the board was replaced by a new one?

Are you talking about the serial number of the laptop itself? or the serial number of the motherboard? Either way, HP will have already updated in their records the new serial number of the motherboard that they put in your laptop. The serial number of the laptop itself will never change, unless of course they issue you another laptop. I've never checked the serial number in the bios, but if its the serial number of the motherboard it will change now that a new one had been put in, because it is displaying its own properties.

I'm referring with the serial of the laptop itself. I'm just wondering how its bios recognizes the laptops serial number eventhough the board was already changed. Maybe some soft of chip connected to the board?
