ordered a dv7t on 2/8/12. it arrived 2/20/12, and had a bad audio card. i sent it back for an exchange. in the meantime i convinced HP customer service to give me a couple of upgrades to my original config for around $20.

the defective laptop got to them yesterday. so i called tonight to check on the replacement and was told that they hadn't done it as a replacement (even though the order was showing for the new one!) but had processed a refund. the choices i was given were: 1. charge the new pc to my account now and get it into production or 2. wait until the refund processes and then charge and build the new one.

needless to say... neither of the two options are really acceptable to me. i don't have an extra $850 lying around to buy a second laptop when they already have had my money for three weeks. and i hate to wait another 3-5 business days for the refund to process and then buy the new laptop and go through the process all over again. unfortunately the supervisor i spoke with last week wasn't available tonight.

so i'm not sure if i should let it go and just wait the 2 or more extra weeks or tell them to forget it and go elsewhere. it's a really good deal, especially with the upgrades. i can't really find the same config for anywhere near the same price elsewhere. but it's the principal of the thing.

here is the new config and pricing (upgrades in bold):

HP Pavilion dv7t customizable Notebook PC
    steel gray
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M Processor (2.4 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Turbo Boost to 3.0 GHz
    • Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 [HDMI, VGA]
    • 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • FREE Upgrade to 640GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
    • No additional security software
    • 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    17.3-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    • Blu-ray writer & SuperMulti DVD burner
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    • 802.11b/g/n WLAN
    • Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
    Order subtotal $813.59

thoughts? suggestions? i did ask if the refund could be stopped and was told no. not sure how true that is though, since i got an email AFTER getting off the phone saying the refund was being processed and with a totally new return order number.

    thanks!

Same thing happened to me. They processed it as a return and gave me the run-around. It took me 5-6 phone calls before leveling up to someone that could actually make it work out. I don't know why they do that.

Well, they ended up configuring a new machine and then making a price adjustment to equal my first machine. The issue was that I ordered an A8-3530MX then when I went to reorder they didn't have 3530mx any more. But she gave me 8GB vs 6GB RAM, larger HDD to compensate. Although I ended up cancelling that order because a new coupon came out a day later that let me order the same thing she configured for about $50 less. :p
